Having grown out of my Roadcrafter trousers in the last 2 years I am looking at replacing them but I am considering the Darien trousers instead.

Does anybody have experience of the Darien trousers or even better , both of 'em ?

I realise that you lose the quick on and off nature of the Roadcrafter because you dont wear the Darien over your normal clothes.

Any comments , anybody use the Dariens regularly ?

Ian, I have been using a pair of Darien trousers for the last three or four years, great for work as easy on/ off over normal trousers. Full length zip down outside of each leg, and never leaked.

There is no lining to them so basically just a goretex shell, have knee pads, and hip pad can be fitted but would think they would be a pain to use as would clash with the zip.

dariens

Had mine for about a year and love them for commuting in.

As I understand it both the roadcrafters and dariens are worn over normal clothes so there should be no change in the convenience factor.

Mine however do leak as I wear a short jacket and the water just runs off that onto the pants where it collects. Its only happened on very wet days and I just live with it.

The dariens are cut looser than the roadcrafters and are much lighter and therefore less protective.

If you work near Holborn/ Harrow in London and are a size 36" you are welcome to try mine.

Thats interesting Dave/Sam . Looking at the web pics and the description as a jeans style trouser I didnt think they had the clever zip system and I assumed that you wore them on their own.

How about sizing . Did you buy then same as you might buy in say jeans or did you buy a size or two larger than your normal jeans size ? I'm in Cheshire so I can't easily get to Harrow to try 'em on but thanks all the same for the offer.

Cheers,

Ian

Dariens

Buy the size you wear in jeans. Mine have a bit of elastic and a popper fitting which allows you to go up an inch or two.

There are two types of dariens - original and AD1, the latter being on discount. They are also made in China or something and a more of a closer fit.

Yep, agree buy same size as normal pants. I am on my second pair now, the first being Darien and now have the AD1's. The AD'1 seem to have a longer leg. More than welcome to try my 34's.

ps Sam, our paths must cross as just off Holborn myself

34" waist

Dave , you must realise that you represent the smaller end of the GSer body mass index and i'm firmly in the middle. Well actuallly I'm a bit roly poly in the middle, not firm at all, which is the problem :D

I wish I could put on a bit of weight
