I have almost made it and come over to the dark side. I finally built up the courage and sold my beautiful Harley Davidson Fatboy in order to fund a new GS. The lucky gent came on Sunday to pick the bike up and drive it back to Birmingham. Not a good feeling watching someone riding your bike away and then seeing your empty garage:tears. Anyway, I am sure that I am going to be over the moon this coming Saturday when I pick up the new bike :)

Sold my RT & then my R1, don't know why we get so attached to these things ? Vowed I would never do it again....:rob

I sold my Road King late last year to fund my GS1200.
Although I loved the RK I don't regret it for a minute.
Enjoy it mate
millard

ps
I don't miss cleaning acres of friggin chrome though

I loved my V-Rod but the chrome was dying v fast (I'm 1 mile from the sea and it doesn't mix with salty air well), had a 2004 R1, loved it to bits but my back couldn't take it any more and it had to go, but it looked sooo good.

Still wouldn't swap them for my GS:aidan

Recently sold my 1150GSA which I luuuurved to fund the new 12GS. I'm a shorty so from that point of view it was a good move but there really was something about that Uber tank that I still miss.:thedummy If I had the dosh I would buy another as a second bike just to have it. :thumb

The 12GS is very different and as with the 1150, it grows on you and I wouldn't own anything else as my only bike if I can help it.:rob

You'll love the GS. Where you buying it from?

Mate.... Kind of funny that... My whole life the only bike I ever wanted was a HD Fatboy.... until late last year when I changed my mind. I am picking up my 12GS tomorrow and I doubt I'll get much sleep tonight due to the excitement of it all!

SO... as a fellow Saffa (assuming from your avatar of course) enjoy picking up your bike.... I know I will!!

Geniet dit buddy!

We hired a HD Heritage soft tail Classic in Souf Afrika a couple of years ago as I was sure this was the bike for me. I still like the HD but a 1000mile trip turned things round a bit for me and more so Mrs faantjie. She is still suffering from back problems from all the vibrations through the back rest. I loved it but as an only bike I think youd really need to be passionate about HD ownership/lifestyle.

Congrats to you both on the new bikes, you'll love 'em. PM me when ever you visit South London Motorcyles, I'll offer you a FREE cuppa and some biltong:augie

Lekker slaap...............:D

Dankie Julle.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments, it really is nice to be able to share experiences with people like yourselves who have had simiilar experiences. I am buying it from Coopers in Tunbridge Wells. Can't wait. Thanks again and look froward to seeing some of you on the road.:thumb

I had a Dyna for eight years, did a lot of touring on it, but love the GSA, its a fantastic motorcycle, UK to Spain the first day, off roading in the Pyrannees the next!
However, I have thought that it would be great if you could have the performance of the Beemer combined with the sound of a big twin, what joy that would be!
Jim
