Dash lights 1100

Folks,

Hopefully someone may be able to assist. My 1100 has slowly but surely lost all, bar one, of the speedo and rev counter background lights. I have read the haynes manual which states remove the headlamp by unscrewing the three screws on the light itself, which is where i'm scuppered. The screw on the bottom left hand corner of the light seems to be threaded as it won't undo, it feels like its clicking or notchy when you try and unscrew it. The other two bolts come undone fine. How can I remove this bolt??? I could grind the head off but this would still leave the bolt in the hole..........Ive tried wd40 etc etc. I assume the bolt goes into a nut located in the light housing, which is plastic and has obviously failed to keep hold of the nut when ive tried to undo the bolt.
I hope this makes sense, any info would be most appreciated.

Do you mean the screw in the bottom of the headlamp ? It goes directly into threads in the inside of the headlamp housing. You'll have to drill it out if you've stripped the thread. You may be able to just pull it out and then solve the stripped thread simply enough. It doesn't carry any load so I'd think about using something like a small rawlplug or araldite - letting it harden - drill a small pilot hole and then just screw the headlamp cover pack on.

Exactly the same thing happened with one of my headlamp screws.
The screws are actually threaded into brass bushes which are moulded into the plastic headlamp shell.

Undo the screws which want to come out nicely and then gently pull the surround. This should pull the offending bush out of the surround. Then hold the bush with pliers and remove the screw.

If you clean out the 'bush hole' in the surround and the bush (I use meths) you can glue it back in with an epoxy such as araldite. Only use a little epoxy and make sure you insert the bush with the appropriate (greased) screw installed - this stops hydraulic action forcing glue back up the threads of the bush.
