I'm looking to use LED's for my dashboard lights. Does anyone know what size they are on the 1150GS? I think thet are 286's but not sure. Is there an issue with the way LED.s are wired ie + - or -+? also looking to do the side light with an LED. I guess this is a 501 but again does it matter how it's wired?
Cheers :thumb

Had another thought. If I wanted to change the dashboard lights to Blue, is it possible to get the LCD screen (fuel and Temp) changed to blue. I had it in bits the other day and it looks like there a three small LEDS. How easy are these to get changed for blue ones? Is anyone sad enough like me to want to do this or am I on my own with this one? Kinda fancied blinging it up.

The dashboard has lights?

Next you'llbe telling us that there are headlights as well :D

Caution

I had these already installed in the rev counter and speedo on my 1100gs when I bought it. Very blue but not too bright. when I tried to replace them back to the normal bulbs I have had real problems. None of the normal bulbs work despite fittings seemingly ok and despite trip to BMW garage...... no one can explain why?
So be careful in my humble o'pinion.

I would guess it may be because the + and - have been switched around for the LED bulbs. Maybe worth a try? If this solves your problem you may have answered one of mine!!! :thumb

+ and -

Sorry, just saw this reply. Thanks for that it might be the breakthrough I am looking for but as I am elecro ignorant....when you say swapped the + and - around where and what would that be then exactly??
thanks

The led or light emitting diode isnt really a bulb, if an led was wired into bulb circuit without a resistor to reduce current it would blow instantly, thats why your retro fitted bulbs wont work--not enough current--find resistors-remove---fit bulbs-resistors will be there in the circuit----somewhere!

Now ya got me thinking. 3 out of 4 of my dash lights are blown. Replace them with hard wired LEDs and never have to worry about them again :)

just saw this so

thanks for
advice on those LEDs Franz
In the meantime I have put bright white LED's in give off nearly the same amount of light as the original bulbs. But now i have seen the above i will check it out.

Have you used bright white or super bright white? what size are they? (size code if poss). Sent us a pics if ya can to gauge brightness, cheers.
On a quick note re resistors, I think they are built in to the bulb (they sell the bulbs as a direct replacement for car dashboards).
Did you buy the lights for a Ford Focus or just the normal ones. If you bought the standard ones and they are working I still reckon it's polarity as apparently only the ford focus LED replacements will work without modification to the polarity on a R1150GS.

Here is the LED lowdown

it was these
U286WB(286) Dash Board Slim wedge bulb White New Ultimate White
The light is a blue/white and as i said bright enough but a bit more ping would have been good.

and they went in fine, you might notice that you put one in and it doesn't work just take it out and turn it 180 degrees and it will be fine.. it's that polarity thing.

Cheers, I'll give em a try. Any idea what type of bulb the sidelight is?

Damn. That's what I was going to ask. I might even say you took the words right out of my mouth.
