Data tool gear indicator- suitable got F800GS ?

I have started squirrelling away parts when I see them at a "sensible" price just in case I can find a way of sorting the coding out.

Just checked and the air temperature sensor is already fitted. Anyone know if the gear selector sensor fitted would be the same ? I have a new l/h control switch ready with necessary buttons. I have ordered a new bezel to suit the full screen with anti glare eyebrows IYKWIM ! One thing I am still uncertain about is whether the petrol pump unit has a level sensor fitted if not what activates low fuel level light ? If it hasn't what Just need to find a local freelance electronics wizard !

My money is on you having everything fitted that you need - why not take that little chance and fit the new kit and see what happens?
What could possibly go wrong?

I have now fitted what I have but I'm sure the software needs attention before the screen will wake up!

Yes Steve it would .
Why would they fit the temperature sensor though ?

So its all ready for the option been turned on at the factory

The gear position potentiometer is just below the front sprocket and held with two bolts

Looks like this

There appears to be only one listed. I'll have a look later and check which part no. I've got.

Checked and yes I have a potentiometer and seems only one listed so another brick in the wall.
Haynes says "The sensor monitors the position of the selector drum in the gearbox and the ECU uses the information, combined with engine speed, to determine fuelling and ignition requirements."

Plus what gear to display on the dash I think its coding that turns the OBC on or off as shown in the video link all the bikes are the same as its cheaper that way to manufacturer and the factory put the required trim on the instruments and turns the options on or off depending on the build sheet

Does anyone know if we have a BMW technician as a member just to answer the question on how and how difficult it would be to program it ?

He does not explain much but the software seems to be able to update and code the control units on the bike its called rheingold and needs a few cables I might down load it and have a look myself I have the previous software for the cars and have done a few dealer only jobs with it on the cars so this might open up the ecu coding on the bikes

Things are moving on ! I have acquired a replacement instrument cluster with the computer module. Plugged it in and immediately got fuel gauge, gear indicator and engine temp. What needs sorting is mileage read out, strangely the speedo is km/h but the odometer is in miles. Does anyone know if the needles of the speedo and rev counter can be reset by the computer because the speedo starts below the zero but there doesn't appear to be a mechanical stop ! So, five paces forward and two back !

Hi the mileage is read from the ECU and if I remember correctly be changed with a GS-911 from KM to Miles on the odometer

There are a few different speed faces some say MPH HIGH 56.0 some say MPH LOW 56.0 and KPH are the same I think the difference might just be the plate with the speeds on are different and the bikes ECU makes the needle move it could be a stepper motor and thats why it has no stop to the correct position to correspond with the correct speed plate for the setup of the bike.

You could try to put a few bits of tape or dots on the glass in the positions were your speedo positions show say 30 50 70 and use a GPS to see if the needle is in the correct place if so you might just need to swap the plates with the speeds painted on over from the two sets of clocks to have a fully functioning dash with the computer on your bike

One thing I thought that being simple would work is the outside temperature readout but no reading and the sensor is already fitted !

Sorry, yes so far have fitted the left hand switch with info button, fitted set of instruments with computer module. I am hoping to do a through check over the next few days of everything and come to a finite list of what is working and what isn't. The service date is wrong, and not having ABS the warning light shows switched off/ fault.
