just had the tracker removed from my '20 gs1250.
Do they sell on ebay etc, or just dump it?

Why did you have it removed?

And did you have your details removed from the tracker database?

it never picked up a signal from where i live, and if bike stolen i wouldnt want it back. I cancelled my subscription and got BMW to remove it at a service.

Insurance informed?

Have you searched ebay for such items?

Fair enough. I live in the hope that the presence of the tracker would encourage the would-be thief to look elsewhere.

Of course, if they’re stealing to order, and all of a given model have trackers, that doesn’t work.

If it did get nicked, I think I’d rather have the money than the bike back too.

yes, they said makes no difference as bike only down as having factory fitted immobiliser as standard. he did mention that discount only given to cars fitted with tracker.

i hadnt checked, but prob a good idea to, thanks.

I have a few bikes and one with the BMW Datatool tracker, it’s absolute rubbish.

Tells me where the bikes is within 3000miles. App says it has a signal and read location so why 3000miles wrong ?

Don’t buy if you have a choice.

On the other hand… my f850gs is fitted with the Datatool/Scorpion Steath tracker. If the bike is on the bike lift in my garage and I gently raise it 2 ft without the fob on the seat, I get a text telling me the bike is being moved. At any given moment, the geofenced map of my garage shows within a couple of foot where the bike is parked. When I go for a ride on it, on return I can view a map of my route showing the speed at any given point, places where the bike idled ie traffic lights and where I’d parked up for a brew.
My experience is therefore different from yours in that the tracker is extremely accurate.

Same. Works very well for me and will continue the subscription once the free one expires.

Mine also seems to work well, although I haven’t decided if I will renew the subscription

a friend did this, he was not charged any difference to his premium but they wanted £35.00 to make a change on his policy ! Cant fooking win

It goes as a total loss on your policy, which for me was £1k per year increase, and £2k excess loss

My current and previous bike have a Biketrac and am very happy with the accuracy - usually within 10 metres. At this moment it's bang on, showing as in the garage.

+1 Push mine more than 3 foot without the fob and I get a call on my mobile.

I think you can turn that 'small movement' feature off so that you dont get calls when you move your bike. You do it on the website. If it gets stolen and moves further you still get notified.

In that case, perhaps I wouldn’t…

I’m not thinking of taking mine off anyway. I need to pay them tomorrow, the bike’s a year old next week.

I disconnected the battery last weekend, and got a call very quickly. No complaints re the service.

I had Biketrac fitted to my 2019 RT (Insurer wouldn't insure it without a tracker fitted). Now I have a BMW fitted Datatool on the 2021. Biketrac did NOT require that I carry a battery dependent fob around with me, would SMS and phone me if the bike was moved OUTSIDE of the geofenced area, I could read the bike's battery voltage on my phone, and the annual sub is less than Datatool.

Maybe I've misunderstood the purpose of geofencing, but if I move the bike in my garage without the fob nearby but still well within the geofenced area that I have set, Datatool send me an SMS (I've turned off the phone call setting because of this annoyance) - which is one of the limited number of "free" SMS that they will send every month. No such limit with Biketrac.

No idea why BMW went with Datatool when Biketrac is much better imo.

Biketrac also call your primary contact should you go down - potentially useful if you're out alone and have an incident.

I have a few bikes with Biketrac and it’s a great device and service.

BMW not fitting any trackers on bikes from next year going by dealer.
