Daytona boot soles?

Jesus! That’s not the fault of either J&S or Daytona, you’ve quite obviously chewed them up on something, you say you have rubber peg inserts well ok but you’ve caught them on something, definitely nobody’s fault but you’re own.

Sorry but if i was the J&S retail assistant I’d be sending you packing 😆

So, over two weeks ago took the boots back to J&S … it was then 13 days since purchasing them new…
Manager looked at them.. took photo’s and called head office…. He then tells me he’s been told to send them back to head office for them to assess….
He then says they may say that it’s cosmetic 😡 I showed my displeasure and he said it’s unlikely but they have to go through the process…
So a week ago I rang J&S to be told that head office had sent photo’s to Daytona Europe and were waiting for for a response
Another weeks goes by ( yesterday). Rang them again. … ‘We’re waiting for a response from Daytona Europe’

I pointed out that my contract is with J&S not Daytona… and that the wait is unacceptable…. They said they’d chase it up..again😏

Never seen boots with that marks on them, Strange it's only on those letters at front of boot and not the whole amount.
Looking closer they appear to have been rubbed as the boots has been dragged backwards, was you reversing down a steep gradient with stones, climbing a ladder with them on? etc. might explain the marks.
This angle makes it easier to see the damage:-

Lick test would have solved it, but alas my days of detective lick tests are over. :green gri

Anyway I hope you get a good outcome, from Daytona.

Two trips to a local cafe with a decent yard… total time on my feet about 100yards so can’t see how I’d have caused the damage… i’ve had quite a few pairs of Daytona in my time and none of them have ever gone like that

Appears then that the glue that held parts of those front letters not up to standard, softer letters parts came undone, letters would have been raised higher than the rest of the sole and simply dragged as you walked that 100 yards, or less.

I agree, and see your point, I would have demanded a full refund immediately, boots are not fit for purpose.

The Daytona boots I owned if I remember still had logo on the soles even after 10 years of rough use,
before a resole and then the gear changer protector fell off, ended them.

150 miles …And my foot pegs have nice thick rubbers on them …..is this to be expected?
Footrest rubbers is good for boots, however depending on the bike model your riding at the time, the foot brake might have spikes like on this Triumph 1200 adventure bike which might account for the torn soft plastic lettering on the front part of your boot, Brake side.
Main reason I ditched the GSA brake pedal for the plain GS pedal with a larger ext. pedal plate, as the older GSA one was tearing into my boot sole as well.

Of course if it is showing damage on the left boot as well, this would not account for the damage done to both soles... usually the gear change lever has a round rubber protector on them, or smoother metal.

Mine are 10 years old now and dont look like that
The soles are getting worn as you would expect but the red Daytona logo is still as pristine as you would expect rather than hanging off like yours

What type of brake lever has your bike got fitted?, is it smooth or spikey for use with an off road touring boot?
Spikey pedals do wear out boot soles, I read it here! :green gri

To me, reliant on one picture, it looks like the bonding (red lettering to the boot’s sole) was simply not applied fully or properly. This has resulted in peeling away.

Does it affect the integrity of the boot or render it ‘Unfit for purpose’ (to use the popular expression)? Probably not.

Should it happen within apparently so short a period? No, I guess not. Why? Because there is enough evidence of lettering on (regularly used) Daytona boot soles lasting years, with just normal wear and tear playing their part.

It’ll be interesting (in a bikermate banter, teeth sucking, outrage or joy kind of way) to hear the outcome.

:beerjug:

I would like to know the outcome as well, as I did really like my last Daytona boots and would still buy another set, if they didn't fall apart so easily as these did. "No teeth sucking unfortunately, I might swallow em." :D

Interested was it only the right boot affected? or Both?
With some past years experience from working in a clothing side of a bike shop, never came across Daytona boots with issues such as these. I had sold many, many boots, in my time.

currently gnurled alloy
but my boots have been on 5 bikes in their lifetime

Left boot only….and this is the footrest 🤨
Meanwhile STILL waiting for J&S to sort it…. Apparently still waiting for Daytona Europe to reply 😡

Thank you, that explains it, wasn't the pedals that caused it, but more than likely bad manufacturers glue applied to the boot at source, resulting in lettering lifting and being dragged as you walked without noticing.

Sounds like bad glue to me Bryn.

For a comparison, here’s my Road Star GTX after about two years of wear since being resoled at Frey Daytona in Germany. The grey lettering is only just wearing through.

Best boots I’ve ever owned, despite the initial price they have easily outlived cheaper boots and continue to serve. As they say, buy cheap buy twice. I hope Daytona sort you out under warranty.

Well, finally got a full refund… apparently all the Daytona Europe staff are at the TT 😂
Hence the delay …
So as a ‘Good Will’ gesture J&S have refunded me as they ‘Value me’ as a future customer…
So we got there in the end 👍
Got a pair of virtually new Road Star GTX replacements for a third of the price from eBay… so a good result 😉
