I recently bought a pair of Daytona 'Gator boots at the Coulsdon Branch of Hein Gericke, where I was rushed for £180. Within a month the stitching on the inside left heel had worn through where the boot rubs against the silver round thingy behind the gear change. After backloading the boots to HG supreme headquarters, they have ruled its the machine/my riding style & not the boots, so get on with it.
PISH as my Scottish grannies would have said, to that end has anyone else had similar HG/GS/daytona boots experiences, & what was the outcome?:mcgun:bash:rocketwho

I have covered over 90,000 miles on 2 GS with my Daytonas. Not one patch of worn stitching, nor any wear on the round thingy either, so I guess I don't ride in a way that does touch that part of the frame. Not much help to you really :blast

I have had these Daytonas for donkeys years, forget how many miles I have done in them. They have never let me down...

I have Daytona (evo) boots, as do lots of my mates, and I have never heard of anything like this happening.

The reason I went with them (even though they were bloody expensive) is their legendary reputation for quality and service.

I'd suggest that HG's response in your case is pretty piss poor - surely a set of motorcycle boots that wear like that after just a month are not fit for purpose???!!!

Try contacting the manufacturer direct and telling them how unhappy you are with the lack of customer care you are getting?

I'm on my second pair (expensive as they are).
The last pair lasted 5 years of daily riding until a zip went.
I've never had wet, cold or draughty feet in years of Daytons use.
Frankly surprised by HG's response.

I got a duff pair of goretex pants from Hein Gericke. When I took them back the salesmonkey fobbed me off. Went in a couple of days later and saw the manager and got an exchange. No probs.

I've also had a couple of years in a pair of Daytonas. Still unmarked and waterproof. Cracking boots and worth the money, particularly if you get them cheap off a german website.

my daytona boots started to leak at just over 2 years old. they went back to the factory and were rebuilt FOC.

18 months later and the left boot has started leaking again. can't have done more than 5K in them :(

stitching is fine though. i don't rub my boots on the frame while riding. the paint's still good too :thumb2

This is a technical section and Daytona boots don't really come under that title:blast I'll get the post moved into the relevant section.

Having said that, I'm on my second pair of Daytona Trans Open and they are the best boots money can buy in my opinion. All day comfy, great protection and above all.....dry:thumb

I'm sure the Daytona boots that HG sell are not the same quality as other Daytonas. If you look on the Daytona website you can't see the HG ones shown and after recently looking for a new pair of boots, trying the HG Daytonas and settling for a pair of Road Star GTX's they are in a different league.

Having said that they shouldn't fall apart after a few months and having had experience with a leaky helmet from HG I know that if you put your foot down they'll sort things for you. My problem was eventually sorted by contacting head office having had no joy with the shop manager.

Hi Sarge68

I came across your posting regarding daytona boots. I have a pair of security evo g3 boots and quite frankly they are very poor quality. I have had them 2 years, dry riding only and no "offs"

The stitching is coming apart from the zip holding it to the leather and the leather itself has the wear resistance of wet tissue paper. I have contacted daytona by fax and several e mails and they can`t be bothered to reply. I have now taken up the case with the local trading standards in Germany to see what they can do. You are not alone, they are quite simply not worth the money

Mmmm. I've just replaced a what? 50k mile old, all-year-round pair of Daytona Voyager GTX boots, which are still in amazing shape for their age. Still completely waterproof, soles still good, no stitching problems and having just cleaned them up - look like they might have done a tenth of their true mileage. Really good quality I thought, top-notch leather, build etc.

Have Daytona moved production to a different country in the last few years? It would be a real shame if their QC has taken a turn for the worse as I was considering 'investing' in a pair of them there Trans Opens - expecting them to last the rest of my life!

I bought some second hand Road Stars off ebay and got T-Boned shortly afterwards (late 2004). The boots saved me. I therefore invested in a pair of Trans Open GTX and have been wearing them ever since.

They are comfy all day, easy to walk in and totally dry. They're worn in all weathers all year round.

I apply Daytona leather cream every couple of months and treat them with Daytona waterproofer at the same time.

They need resoleing now and the fancy metal toe sliders are rusting away. The only complaint I had was the gear change pad started to lift on the left boot but some araldite soon fixed that.

If the exchange rate for the euro goes above 1.30 I'll be having another pair from http://www.louis.de/_204b385f1ec4f8...r=190&wgr=823&hersteller=53&anzeige=0&typ_id=

Works out at around £250

Hi

If you could tell me how to post a pic I will show you the quality of these boots.

The thread has not broken or rotted away its just just coming away in a loop. I must admit that I am really disappointed in them and the fact that daytona won`t even reply to my emails sums up the situation. You pays your money and takes your choice or should that be chance !

They could well be made in another country and labeled german, nothing stopping them doing this. I simply would not buy anymore. For the price you could probably buy 3 pairs of alpinstars or similar

The soles are also showing signs of wear that I would not normally expect on a pair of boots 2 years with about 3k miles on them at most.

I have a pair of lady Daytonas with the inbuilt heels and they are superb. Completely waterproof in monsoon conditions. Have had them for 2 years - worn most weekends summer and winter and have done several tours in Europe with them. Even when the rest of me was sodden my lower legs and feet were dry in Wales (is that place every dry??) I reckon they have another year or two in them and I have a replacement pair ready and waiting in the loft.

I would take them to trading standards and tell them the tale. Suspect they won't be quite so dismissive with TS as they are with you

:eek

You need to return them to the dealer who should sort you out.

I trashed my TravelStar GTX's in 5 years and sent them back for refurbishment. £120 they said.

Some while later they said they'd lost my boots but I could have a brand new pair. Without any quibble.

The outer/stiching has been perfect and I do rub the paint off.

I've had a pair of Traveler Gtx boots for many years..so long I can't honestly remember, may be 15 years?..

..and apart from looking a bit faded, they have never let in any water, have been comfortable, and have had no issues with them whatsoever..and that is after covering so many miles I can't imagine, in al conditions.

Even though I bought a pair of Sidi Rain Evos a few years ago, it is always the Daytonas that get worn.

Top boots, and I'd totally recommend them....if you've got issues I'd send them back and get them sorted.

On my second pair of Daytona boots, Spirit XCR I think, can't recall the previous model though, and I've got nothing negative to report. From my experience so far they appear well made and last for years...

well I`ve signed a letter of attorney and the matter is now in the hands of a lawyer. I`ll let you know the outcome, sorry can`t say anymore at this stage.

I'm realluy surprised that a few people have had issues with Daytonas.

We've got 4 pairs between us and they've all been fabiulous. The pair I'm wearing now have done about 40k miles and the gear pad stitching has worn out on the left boot so I'll need to glue it down some how.

Had my first pair of Travel Stars refurbished at the factory for £150 a few years ago - new zips, sole outer, most of the GoreTex and a general freshen up.

I know several club racers who swear by the security evo too, especially as it has a replacable outer in the exent of a crash. And these are guys who don't have much cash and have to buy their own boots too.
