Daytona Roadstar GTX Refurbishment - Is it worth it?

My Roadstars have started to leak and the soles are worn after 3 years, one crash and about 50,000 miles. The leather is in good condition as are the zips and velcro. Question is the full refurb including resole and replacement Goretex is around £180 is it worth it, and when re Gortexed am I likely to get another three years out of them?

I wasn't pleased with these boots at the time of my accident but Daytona repaired and modified them to protect the vulnerable outer zip. Since then they have been great, extremely comfortable and until now waterproof so it's either a new pair or a refurb

The refurb is worth it as you will get the same wear from them again. The problem is the turnaround time is several weeks so you need another pair of boots to keep you on the road, unless you take the winter off.

I've always ended up getting another pair of Daytona boots and then putting the worn pair in the cupboard pending the round tuits to send off for refurb. A mate had a pair of Highway GTX from me as I'd never got around to refurbishing them, and they are no longer a comfortable fit as my left foot is a bit wider since an injury.

I had mine refurbed last year and they did come back like new. Considering a new pair is now £300+, it was a bargain, though I thought I paid £130 or so...?

The 6 week repair time is a pain, but I bought a 2nd pair of boots as an aternative (summer boots), so used them while a waited.

My last pair were repaired via the importers in Prestatyn,but I think they've given up now.They lent me a pair when mine were being repaired,top service I thought.When I wore them out a second time,the leather was starting to give in and the back was worn through after a bit of accident damage,so I just got a new pair from Germany.
I can recommend getting them mended though

I got new Goretex, new soles, 4 week turnaround (during the winter) and cost about £130. Just dropped them off at the local dealer and he emailed me when they were ready. Looking forward to another 5 years, and meanwhile I can save up for a new pair

Sadly, not all Daytona stockists are clued up about the refurbishment process. A couple of months ago I would've recommended GLF in Flitwick but Graham has wound up his motorcycle business to concentrate on something more profitable.

for 300 euros it worked out at around £250ish a couple of months ago A higher boot with zip protection as my zip was a little damaged on my roadstars after a slow slide on the road!

I have a spare pair of boots so I'm ok there.

my zip was a little damaged on my roadstars after a slow slide on the road!

The same thing happened to me, I wrote to Daytona who repaired the zip for free and extended the zip flap giving the zip proper protection.

cost about £130

I've now had a ring round and got the price down to £134 so I'm having them refurbished

Locally to us there's Everything but Bikes and Colwyn Bay Motorcycles, mine are going via Colwyn Bay Motorcycles who gave me the better price.

Great Boots

I've got 2 pairs of roadstar GTX boots, I remember the price in 1996 was £159.

The re-furb service is excellent, didn't think they were my boots when they came back.

Heehee, a couple of months?? He's been closed at least a year now might even be nearer two. You know how time flies.....

When I looked into repairing my Roadstars it wasn't worth it.

Hideout quoted more than I paid for a new pair off eBay, which ended up being delivered direct from tranam.
I did need soles, zips and gear change pad though.

Just as an update to this dusty old thread because I'd been reading through the posts while deciding what to do with my 6 year old Daytona's that needed a new sole.

Option 1 - send them to Tran Am and cough up the 'unknown-until-they-come-back-from-Germany' fee (almost certainly upwards of £150)
Option 2 - drop them into the local cobblers and see what they reckoned.

Result..?

The local cobblers have done a sterling job - complete re-sole (not just those sticky patch things you sometimes see on shoe repairs), done in 2 hours and all the for princely sum of £29.50.

My update

Boots went back to Daytona were refurbed came back and the right boot leaked badly, went back to Daytona again they said they were responsible and the boots were now scrap. They offered me a new pair foc - to be accurate for the price of the refurb but the original refurb was credited due to iffy work. All in all I was and still am rather happy Oh and the cost was £134 for replacing the goretex and a resole
