I was knocked off a bike about 13 weeks ago and substained a nasty compond fracture of my left ankle

The boots I was wearing were Altberg Roadrunner and I believe they saved me from a far worse injury.

I hope to get back on the bike in 4-6 weeks and am researching boots. Although I have been happy with Altberg for over 15 years (about 4 or 5 pairs), they can be difficult to get on and off and the upper shoe part of the boot is not very flexible.

I am considering buying a pair of Daytona Roadster Pro boots when my swelling has gone down and I get the OK from my consultant. I am attracted to these Daytona boots by the double zip, more flexible leather in the upper shoe area and the adjustable calf section of the boot. Also they (claim) to be totally waterproof and the reviews on line are very positive.

The only downside is the high cost which I am prepared to pay if they meed my needs.

Anyone out there wear these boots and what do you think of them

Thanks in advance

Mike

I don't have these, but have had a pair of Daytona M Stars (the gortex ones) since 2015 and they were all day comfy from the off, appear to be very well made and the 2 zip system does make it easier to get your feet in them. They seem built to last too 👍

All / any Daytona boots are very good. Just check that (like any shoe) they fit your feet.

Thats my line!

I've got the Travelstar rather than the Roadstar but they're a great boot if a tad heavier due to the higher shin so more material. They're all-day comfy and I can vouch for their waterproofness ! They've a very good reputation and it's deserved (IMO).

I had a foot injury and ended up with a wider foot. The Daytona Journey short boot has a wider foot bed and easy access due to the velcro flap. It's my winter boot as can be worn with thicker socks. Just an option if you have this experience where a swollen foot does not return to the original size ..

I have the Travel Star GTX Pro, I have been using them all year around for the last 3 years for blood biking. They have been 100% waterproof, I do treat them with the Daytona polish and reproofing etc. Only issue I have had is the gear change pan is a bit worn away on the edge, this seems a common issue and Daytona (contacted them direct) offered to sort, but as it is a stitched pad they could only stick a new one on. Basically the pad needs to be a bit longer. But the pad is fine and not lifting anymore, hasn't caused any leaks, so I have left it. They are brilliant boots, very hard when new, found it difficult to change gear until they wore in a bit.

I also have a pair of Altberg Road Runner boots, which I use on my classic bike as they are not quite as chunky. Have had them for 10 years and had them resoled, hence why I bought the Daytonas for the interim. Big Daytona fan but also a big Altberg fan.

Been wearing Daytona Roadstars for over 25 years
Best boots out there
Comfy
Protection is the best
Waterproof for 8 hour days ….in monsoon conditions in Germany & Austria
Always keep my ‘next’ new pair in the cupboard for when the current pair bite the dust
Daytona for the road riding
Sidi for trail and dirt riding
None finer

Hah. I sent my a Daytona Rainbow boots back for a refurb. Then notice FCMoto were selling the last of the line for £155. Not much more than the refurb cost. I bought a new pair and after another few years wearing the refurbed boots, I started wearing the new ones last year. The originals were about 20 years old when resoled

WOW. What a response. Big thumbs up from everyone.

I'll certainly try a pair on when I can

Thanks all

Mike

The pro versions of Daytona boots have a higher level of protection than the “standard” non pro versions.

The Pro element was originally introduced to meet the requirements of German and other Police Forces asking for tougher safer boots.

I currently use Travel Star GTX Pro boots, and I’d echo what JB said.

👍👍

My Roadstar GTX Daytona’s are now reaching the end of their life, they’re 26 years old and a bit like Tiggers broom. 1 pair of gearchange rubbers and re-soled twice. Looking a bit shabby now but still waterproof, and absolutely the best boots you can buy.

I now have 4 pairs, various models, and I could easily talk myself into a new pair of the Pro’s.

They also come in a wider fit as well. M Star has also 2 zippers but also a rear calf adjustment and also adds 2” in hight via an insole and thicker sole. I recon is the most technically designed boot on the market.
The insert is proper cork, over time it moulds to your feet.
The boot literally opens up like a peeled banana so inserting your bad foot should be easy. To top it off is also waterproof and all day comfort walking.
They cost a massive £400 + but occasionally you can get some crazy deals.

Love my Roadstars, expenses yes but it’s another case of you get what you pay for. Totally waterproof in all day biblical rain, cool in the summer and keep you warm in the winter.

Unlike some other boots these don’t feel like you are going to slip over when you put your foot down on a wet road.

Roadstar GTX here had them for 10 years plus superb boots all you need and will last for ever
Expensive but great investment

I got a pair of Travelstar Pro Gtx when my Altberg Clubmans gave up the ghost and they wouldn’t recline them. Initially I thought they were a bit too solid but after a week they bedded in and are great I’d definitely buy another pair. I’ve had a pair of Evo Sport Gtx for 20+ years and like triggers broom they have been back to the factory a few times when things have worn out and come back as new.

Great boots, I still have mine, but they are a bit mehh looking if you want to take a walk into town for an evening meal and are traveling light.

Mr. Paul* of famous motorcycle outfitters in Surrey, does stock both regular and wide foot fitting Daytona Road star (not Roadster) boots. He does proclaim to be the only retailer in the UK to do so.

*you know who he is. I just dot willing to give him any further publicity, he’s doing a ok without my input.

Best boots you can buy. I have three pairs. Great kit.

Good to have all these positive replies....thanks lads

Makes spending £400+ on a pair of boots a bit easier!
