Daytona Voyager GTX

I bought a pair of these back in 2012 from Louis outlet in Hamburg. Cost me €150 at the time. Only started wearing them in earnest from 2020 when my old summer boots wore out Have worn them every year since then a couple times a year. Today noticed on our second day touring in France that the heel sole on one boot has come away in part from the upper. I am praying it will last until Saturday otherwise I have a big problem. Nevertheless I am looking to buy a new pair. I have googled but I seems the model although still exists I am having trouble getting my size

Anyone know which model has superseded the Voyager GTX?
I was considering sending my boots back to Daytona and have the fixed but it depends how much a new pair costs
Appreciate any advice. Thanks
 
A cobbler in France should be able to glue the sole back on. Failing that a gaffer tape ghetto repair should get you home. :D

Pending repair or replacement. In extremis over the jaunt, bind the boot with gaffer tape. You’ll probably need to cut the tape at each removal of the boot but it works, trust me.

Get some contact adhesive from Bricomarche DIY shop. It is the stuff you apply to both sides, leave it to evaporate for 5-10 minutes then stick together. Use some strong masking tape to pull the two halves together and leave it overnight. You can remove excess glue by means of rolling it of the surface, a bit like rolling a buger between your fingers. It will last till the end of the trip if not longer, then send them to Daytona to resole properly.

Shoes, boots must be worn....why?

Hydrolysis is the chemical breakdown of the PU polymer and the resulting physical breakdown or crumbling of the PU sole by the attack of water (usually in vapour form), occurring over a period of several years (even when the shoes are in store!). This process is accelerated by warmth and high humidity.
Rubber soles also contain plasticizers, which help maintain their flexibility. Over time, these plasticizers can evaporate, causing the rubber to harden and become brittle.
Rubber soles can degrade due to oxidation, a process where they react with oxygen in the air, especially when exposed to sunlight. This causes the rubber to lose flexibility, become brittle, and potentially crack.

Daytona will replace the old sole. I wouldn't recommend any glue or tape, it will not work. Had the same problem. I was lucky the dealer in Nice was open and just purchased a new pair of Santiago boots . Over 16 year old and still in good shape and waterproof.
 
Thanks all. I need a size 46 and notice FC Moto don’t have that size. I will contact Daytona and find out how much to repair. If it’s too much I will have just wasted the postage to germany

I also spoke with Alt-berg who was suggested to me on this forum, they simply said “Send them up, we’ll contact you if there’s a problem”

Grant hasn’t got the customs, taxes, etc issues, as he does mostly reside in the Netherlands 😉

Tranam are talking bollocks. The OP just needs to send them direct to Daytona in Germany. If he goes on the Daytona website there’s a form to download and fill in, assuming it’s still there. If not I’d just send them anyway. I paid £14 to post my Roadstars a few years ago, even though Daytona said they didn’t do such old ones, but they still resoled and replaced the gearchange pads all for under £150 returned to me. I sent my second pair as soon as the first arrived back.

GRANTMAC, seriously, just post them direct to Daytona as soon as you get home. They might even do it as a warranty repair if you explain how it happened.

boots fixed and on their way back to me. Total cost including postage was EURO 125.
Lets see how they did it. Cheaper than 450 for a whole new pair.
Do you know if they changed the foot bed? I mean the cork filling (insole and outsole gap) which over time compacts and perishes.
 
My guess yes but I will only see when I get back however when the sole came away from the upper there was no cork bit you describe. Just the lattice work in the sole where the glue had all perished
 
Boots returned. New soles & total clean over. Look like new! Total cost including shipping EURO 125
Very happy!
