Hi all,

I've fitted a headlight protector like this:

http://www.touratech.com/shops/001/product_info.php?cPath=3_38_281&products_id=556

And Tobinators to my R1150GS Adventure.

Since doing it I'm getting a really bad glare from the screen. It appears to be reflecting off the headlight protector.

I was thinking of fitting maybe a piece of fabric from the top of the protector to the plastic that comes down to the top of the headlights to stop it.

Has anyone done anything similar or does anyone know of something I can buy?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm ...

... I have exactly the same set-up on my 1150GSA (Tobinators & mesh protector) and don't get any noticeable glare :nenau Have you checked the main beam height adjuster

There's ...

... a little lever on the back of the light casing, goes from vertical to horizontal :augie

Or screws on the front...you can adjust each lamp seperately. Height of throw and side throw too....but I can't remember which does what!

I set my bike on its centre stand on a straight road one night with the screen off and fiddled to get the beams where I want them (not where the MOT man wants them!)

Cheers for the advice, I will have a look.

I have to say though, the main beam did seem to point in generally the right direction ... if I stood up so I was a lot higher than the screen I could see just fine but sitting down I could see better on dipped beam than main beam the glare was so bad ... there is a fair amount of glare on dipped beam too though.

Doesn't matter how much you fiddle with the lamps, the reflective glare thrown back by the protector will still remain.I ditched the Tobinators as i had other issues with them as well. Some kind of antiglare screen would work though;try using Duct tape between the protector and the silver screen bit.

You could fit the perspex light protector, though to avoid glare reflecting back at you the mounting arms need to be shortened until the perspex almost touches the lens.

Yep I know exactly what you mean.

I swapped to the same one as you a few months ago.
Prior to the wire mesh type protector, I had the plastic headlight protector on and had an even worse problem.(Don't think the HID main beam helps )
I'm thinking of doing the same bodge on the wire mesh one, that I did with the plastic one,it seemed to work really well.
A few photos to help you get the idea of what i did.

Ahhhh Haaaaa ... that's the answer, then! I had the TT perspex cover fitted and it was a bit of a 'mare with dazzling but also affected the spread of light on the road. Took it off in the end ...

I'm liking that idea Dave. If I manage to do something similar with the mesh one I'll post piccies.

I had a similar problem with the perspex protector, I shortened the screws and spacers and brought the protector much closer.
This was better, but to finish it off i reprofiled the perspex to fit under the silver cowl so no reflection.
Its been OK for the last couple of years

What I did with my 1100GS. A sheet of 0.6mm ali off eBay for a couple of quid.

Just pant the rim of the perspex with black paint....around the cut edge, it doesn't affect the see through surface.
