Hi, All.
I've been having problems trying to run my 12GB hard drive in my Compaq laptop of 7.5 years of age. The reason being: I ran the AVG anti virus whilst on battery power, instead of plugging the damn thing in. The battery ran out, and certain files were evidently not returned to their proper place, hence, I cannot get the computer to start up properly, and access the totality of this hard drive (now converted to an external drive, having had to re-install the orignial 4GB drive in order to work) is now impossible.
Brought the thing into a local shop to verify that the information hadn't been lost. Lucky for me, as I still don't know how to do a sauvegarde. They made a copy of my hard drive, but on to 2 DVD's, instead of cds. Of course I don't have a dvd reader, that would make things too easy.
I've tried running the only backup cd that my brother had made for me (A Windows 2000 upgrade cd), but it seems that's all I've got to work with.
The repair "r" mode doesn't give any results, along with the recovery console "C" mode. Same results.
A message simply states that it isn't able to find a version of Windows 2000 on the computer. And another suggests trying to restart the process of repair. Still no luck.
Any suggestions so as to resolve this predicament? I need to access the information contained in Microsoft Outlook in the worst way.
Just for info, there's nothing pirated as per the cd's. Everything was paid for.
Thanks in advance,
Alts
