So, there I was, perusing Memory Map via Parallels on my MacBook, when it froze. I tried the usual 3 finger salute (cont, Alt, Del) and the same for the Apple system. Nothing happened. Waited a bit, tried again, so turned it off by holding the power button. Now if I try to turn it on, I get a grey screen, with a flashing picture of a folder with a question mark in it.
I've consulted a few books and tried holding down various buttons while turning it back on and I can't get it to boot correctly.
Any (sensible) ideas? :nenau

Done that :(
No joy. Tried it holding down C and also D and again with Comm-S. It gets to the installer page and goes no further. I managed to get the Hardware Check to work and it gives the all-clear, so it must be a software problem.

Common problem today:(

Currently re-installing OSX on mine, looks like the HDD is shaged though:(

Did the hardware check and it said all was rosy but we'll see.

'kin 'ell Bill, I knew it wouldn't take long for Mr Mac-Hater to appear :D . That's why I said "Any (sensible) ideas"?

Luckily; :thumb
I. it's still under warranty
II. I backed-up all my music to a separate hard drive only a couple of days ago.

Unluckily;
I. that's all I backed-up. I was going to do everything else this weekend!

Maybe Sugarcube will be along soon. He knows all about these things! :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow

Well the software install failed and the machine is buggered.

Need to get the disk replaced now, just hope it's not a system board problem:mad:

Nope - still knackered!
I phoned the very nice man at Apple, and we tried a few tests to try to find the problem. It would appear to be either the HD or motherboard. Luckily it's under warranty. But that still means I have to take it to Manchester or Birmingham and collect it when it's fixed. How crap is that? When a similar thing happened to a previous laptop a few years ago, the bloke came to fix it next day, and had the parts with him, so it had a down-time of less than 24 hours.
Away on holibobs tomorrow :bounce1 , so will do summat about it when I return.
And just for all the Mac-haters, it was running Win-doze when it expired! :thumb2
