I last rode the bike last Sunday.

Got her out again today, and she's completely dead. Turn the key and nothing happens. Nothing at all.

Nothing comes up on the display. It's like the key hasn't been turned.

I've checked the battery, and it's reading fully charged.

Not quite sure where to go from here......

Just a thought but is the battery really fully charged ? mine was showing ok on the charger but when i had it tested is was knackered , put a new one on and had life once again :thumb

Main fuse mate, prob next thing to check, I'm away at mo so no description but if you're home google it :)

Hope it's that, if not then I'm sure someone on here will have an idea

It's a month old Odyssey battery.

I can't imagine the battery would be so flat it fails to even light up the display, but tests fine on the charger?

battery

what does the voltmeter read when you switch the ignition on/off
what does it read when you press the starter button
just because a battery reads 12volts it may still be faulty
when you put load on it
it may drop to 6 volts so start there
if you can make sure you have good clean tight connections

next check all the battery
put the volt meter onto the starter pos connection
and check it where it fastens onto the starter cable is it the same voltage
then to the starter main connection
also do the same with the earth connection

if no good try and replace the old battery with a known good one
borrow one to try
i leave it there till we here from you

good luck

Bit limited at the moment as I don't have a voltmeter......

Although I'm sure if it was a battery problem I'd get something. As it is I get absolutely nothing.... Nada.

I've had the terminals off and checked that they are clean and tight. No problems there.

Hmmm........

Still could be it , mine litrally went dead overnight and i had been riding most the day before so assumed it was fully charged :)

Not taking the pee Dan but you haven't accidentally knocked the kill switch to off have you.

Nope. As I've said earlier - there's nothing at all. Nothing on the dash. Not even a hint of a light. The brakes don't start wurring. There is no power at all.

The problem is not that the bike won't start. It's that the bike won't turn on.........

....and just to make things worse :(

As I was investigating the bike, a piece of roofing felt fell down next to me....

Hmmmm.......

So I went and investigated the shed roof. Feck.

The wind has got under the felt and ripped it to shreds.

So rather than having time to diagnose a sick bike I've just had to do an emergency dash to builders merchants, and spend the last hour making a temporary fix to the shed roof.

The damage was greater than first estimated, so even more felt is required tomorrow :(

Feckkety feck.

battery terminals

Check those first. If youre stuck ring me.Paul
I'll pm you my tel number.
by the way if you want discount Rac Cover give me a shout.
ps i bet its a bad earth or a bad live at the battery. These things normally breakdown cos sumats come adrift near where works were carried out.

Sorry about your misfortune, heres a link to electrical diagrams etc, may be of some help.

I have a meter but its feck all use to you Im afraid good luck
As its all gone, the ignition lock is the best starting point if your batteries good.

Just a thought, does the ring antena thingy kill of the lot if its failed?

Have you tried your spare key in case its something as sill as your key??

Still could be the battery and must be worth investigating - try jumping it from your motor :thumb2

When my battery died it went from start first press of the button every day to totally dead over night.

AFAIK if the battery falls below a certain voltage the CANBUS will shut down the circuits so, there may still be some charge but not enough to 'fire up' the CPU hence nothing powering up....................... :nenau

I guess the other thing could be the ring antenna - not sure what the symptons are when they fail :nenau

EWS on the display, it's not getting that far. Could be very low battery voltage stopping the main computer thingy from doing anything at all.

Voltmeter probably essential now.

I think it always helps to have a think about these things.

I'm going to pop out and get a Voltmeter tomorrow, but I'm fairly sure it's got to be a bad connection somewhere........

I'm sure it's not the battery.

If you are jump starting from your motor use positive to positive BUT use a shiny bit of exhaust to clamp the negative onto

This Will exclude the battery from the equation if it has an internal short or high resistance

Plus it will help protect your electronics from the surge Make sure your ignition is off before you connect Positive first then negative to the exhaust clamp or substantial ground

Maybe the engine ground that is under the battery tray has corroded thru????

Also Toad if it is a bad connection looping out the battery with jump leads may fire up the dash and give you a clue?
