Just about to leave the Isle of Raasay yesterday and noted the display on my dash was missing when I turned the key. Bike started fine, but no lights, neutral light, rev counter speedo etc.

Came on a short time later, but each time I started the bike it took longer. Nothing at all now..... arrived home late last night, so booked in for warranty work tomorrow......

I presume it is a canbus fault........ my canbus wired Garmin zumo (not working now as wel)l..... played up an hour after the dash fault..... problem now is, the zumo won't even fire up under it's own battery, so this MAY be a coincidence.

Anyone else lost their rider display/ dash info?

May just be the connector at the back of the dash?

Jiggle it a bit?...WD40?

:rob

I suspect damp / grot in the dashboard's inwards connectors.... simply no signal arriving at any of the instruments... Pull connector(s) apart, clean carefully / blow in / on them etc. Reassemble and pray....

Zumo failure? Maybe coincidental, or the canbus shuts down some peripherals as well when the dashboard doesn't spark up. If it was suddenly switched off it might just need a reset.... or a simple in out of the battery.....or a good kicking....

I did the ACF50 thing before I set off..... BUT, didnt touch the dash plug. Tried wiggling it to no avail..... am convinced it's a canbus thing. Bike is July 08.... 20k.....
Weird how it was almost predictable at first... worked a few miles..... worked after a few miles..... then waited half an hour before working. Yesterday it did a 150 miles with nothing then worked after a 2 hour hour ferry break :nenau

If the display is totally blank it is due to a lack of power. The red (or was it brown..) wire should be carring 12v when the ignition is on.

If it's not a canbus shutdown it could be either the connector, or as reported on a recent thread, corrosion of the wiring in the loom just below the connector. Try a search, there were pictures too

Its your fault for taking it out in the rain! :comfort

So .. you sprayed ACF50 on your bike, then found the dash had stopped working, and you blame it on the canbus?

Fixed

Bike still in warranty, so got left in for a check today. Now fixed, but service desk couldnt tell me what they did...... but apparently nothing major.
The clock needed re-set when I collected it, so I suspect the battery was disconnected by them........ probably that old turn it off at the mains trick:nenau
