Am I missing something blindingly obvious?

My dip beam died a few days ago. Anyway, I only just got round to looking at it.

And I can't fathom why I have NO power at all on the dip beam lighting circuit.

Oh, and as I discovered after it got dark, the lamps that should illuminate the speedo and tacho are also not functioning.

Anyone got any clues?

Some sort of relay/fuse in the fusebox? They all seem OK, but are there any lurking hidden somehwere?

I've got exactly the same problem on my 03 1150GS and unfortunately as yet, no solution.

I haven't ridden at night recently and I only noticed that the dipped headlight bulb was broken when riding on the motorway at night and it all went dark when I got to an unlit stretch .

Anyway, I bought and fitted a new bulb today, checked it worked and rode home. By the time I got back the light wasn't working. I'd been sold a 100w bulb, being assured it was fine so obviously I suspected that perhaps it wasn't fine and hence the problem. However there is nothing wrong with the bulb, though to be on the safe side I swapped back to a 55w bulb.

Now I'm left with precisely the symptoms described by Droopy Dick. I understand that there are no fuses on the lighting circuit so is there any other possible cause than the broken wire suggested by Steptoe in his related thread?

The problem turned out to be broken wire in the switch assembly for the lights. Although you don't now have the option of switching off the dipped beam, it seems that the wiring still does go through this switch. Anyway, fixed now.

Guy's I think i may have the answer :bow :bow

On my 2003 1150GS which I have just ripped the ABS guts out, I also lost my dipped beam light as well as the tail and brake light. The latter two were a case of rewiring. The dipped light turned out to be caused by me removing Fuse 8. According to the owners manual, Fuse 8 is not used. If you look in the holder and see the metal spade connectors in place for the fuse to plug into then fit a 7.5A fuse and if I am correct you should have a dipped beam headlight once again :thumb :thumb

If not then it's out with the multimeter
