The thread about Rannoch Station tearoom has got me thinking. Every year a load of us go away for a long weekend. Simple rule - Start and finish points for each day and get there how you want and with who you want.

After doing this for well over a decade most of the roads have been done at least once usually a lot more. :blast

This year I've got a plan and that's to take a run along some of the dead end roads along the north west coastline and as a side effect some of the lesser used single track loops off the main roads.

I've done Kinlochourn before so may add that again. Not been out to Ardnamurchan so that's on the list as is Achiltibuie. :thumb2

So before I start pouring over maps and the Internet I thought I would ask if there are any roads that the collective wisdom and experience would recommend.

You might consider Tayvallich - South West of Crinan on The Sound of Jura.

I had a decent lunch at the Tayvallich Inn a few years ago :thumb.

There's always Macrihanish - West of Campbeltown, but I haven't done that so can't comment.

:thumby: agree, not a long run up to Tayvallich, but the grub at the Inn is excellent , esp if you like seafood. You can also take a run up the other side of loch sween, past castle sween to kilmory, stunning beach there :-)

Dead end roads....

I agree one hundred per cent. Theres some great single track dead end roads up in the North West for exploring (with varying degrees of refreshment opportunities along the way so be prepared!!). Here's some of my favourites travelling North......

Calum's Road on Raasay
1.Torridon to Diabeg (no pub at end of road as depicted in film "Loch Ness"
2.A832 south of Gairloch turn left to to South Erradale and Badachro
3.Strath (Gailoch village) road to Rua Reidh Lighthouse
4.Poolewe to Cove and on to the Russian convoy memorial
5. Laide to Mellon Udrigle - stunning views north on a good day

Plenty more further North

Road out of Braemar to the Lin of Dee is a nice small run, very picturesque when the Grampians have snow on them.

And Glen Etive as shown in Skyfall.

Glen Nevis

Glenelg/Arnisdale/Corran.....two here, one up Glen Bheag to the broch, another round coast to Corran...tea shop!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, plenty to work into a route when I find out where we're staying this year and probably some just for a run.

Keep 'em comin. :thumb2
