My last bargain action camera only used 128Gb cards max.
Having treated myself to a GoPro 12 black today, I discover it can take a 1Tb MicroSD card. Nice to have a box of them but, at over £100 each, no way.
So, will look at either 256 or 512 sized memory cards as I don't want to put all my vacation memories in a tiny chip that can easily be lost.
For example on ebay, there is a plethora of sellers to choose from. The same cards selling from £15 to £115.
Where do you all buy yours from?
Local or online!

Another question.
I do not want to carry a laptop. I believe you can buy a 2Tb external disc drive that can be used (via a slot) to transfer data from a Micro SD to it automatically.
Is that correct and what is available?

SanDisk on Amazon....

But make sure the seller is SanDisk or Amazon itself.

Lots and lots of counterfeit memory cards on the market.

Make sure the media is fast enough if you are intending to use 4k, I use Sandisk Extreme Pro I have found cheaper cards dont allow the throughput

I just bought this for my daughters tablet - 512GB for 29.99 from the sandisk store - there are cheaper but I wouldn't buy unknown brandings that are not speed rated.

I used to have 2 of those portable standalone hard drives many years ago to back up my photos when traveling, one of those even had a small screen to see the pic itself. I just tried to google something for you and come across this, you can connect whatever hard drive you want to it and transfer your images. It has lots of other whistles and bells, which could also be of value to you.

It's only 1TB, but this sounds good in this Aussie review. Maybe some Googling will find a UK Sell for these two bits of kit.

Is their much difference between the Sand Disk Extreme and Ultra SD cards for use in GoPro’s?

And would it be just the speed for uploading from camera to computer.

Amazon using SanDisk.

For GoPros there is an SD compatibility table. Have a look at that.
When I switched to my (current) GoPro 7 I was using a quality SD card, but not to spec and lost a fair amount of footage as the data writing would drop after a certain point. Bought the correct one, all good.

1TB is good if you never take it out of the GoPro.

It's the data writing from camera to card that's the major problem. If you haven't got a high enough spec card then you can have problems with the file transfer as I did. If possible it's a good idea to get a card that's from the manufacturer of the camera. After having problems with a Sandisc card and Nextbase dashcam where the camera wouldn't over write old files once the card was full I ended up sending the dashcam back and getting another dashcam and card from nextbase. I've had no problems since and that records in 4K.
