MOTOR cycle racers, recently robbed of Croft Autodrome, yesterday took to a "new" track— at Albermarle Barracks onTyneside.
But the North-East Motorcycle Racing Club members were following the tyremarks of a past gene-ration as Albermarle was regularly used for Journal-backed road races more than 20 years ago.
Then it was called RAF Ouston.
Run in almost gale-force winds yesterday the top scorer was Stephen John¬son of North Shields, who had four wins on his 350 Yamaha and also put up the fastest solo lap of the meeting at 85.94 m.p.h. for the 1.43 mile circuit.
Alnwick riders Bill Robertson and Peter Banks were first and second in both the 126 c.c. events.
Another local rider Colin Watson from Chester-le-Street scored start to finish wins in both the big production races.
In the first 250 event Dave Cook from Hawick won
The, fastest lap of the day was put up by sidecar crew Tony Baker and Peter Harper from Penrith who took their Yamaha round in 59.2 seconds.

SCOT Roy Anderson was the star of the second round of the Silver Screen North East championship road races at Ouston. Northumberland, on Saturday.
Anderson, from Boat of Garters, broke the outright circuit record of 93 09mph set in September 1982 by sidecar crew Tony Baker and Peter Harper.
His new lap record of 93 77mph came in the ten-lap Tetley Trophy race which he won to add to his double in the 1300 event.
In a record-breaking day for the large Scottish contingent, Eyemouth's Rob Hill (750 Norton) set a new classic record at 84 53mph, Pencuick's Graham Lyell (Yamaha) clocked a new 250 lap mark at 87.85mph and, in the sidecar class, the Formula Two lap record was broken first by Dunfermline's Ian Hardy and his wife Chris on a Yamaha at 82 SOrnph. and then Ooune's Murray Croy and Rob Taylor (Yamaha) raised it to 83.17mph.
