Hi
Today me and the wife were taking lunch at the Greendale Oak in Cuckney
http://www.thegreendaleoak.co.uk/
when as there was some sort of funeral/wake going on in the main restuarant
we were seated in the whats called the cottage, those who know the area will be aware that there is a nice s bend just there. I heard a deep rumbling farting sound and then i saw a Tosser fully loaded on a GSA come round the bend and it sounded very good.

Which got me to a thinking!

What sort of end can would be best for that and why?
Do they give any better performance etc ?
and can i simply change the end can off my GS R1200 GSA 2009 model without doing anything to the cat and the baffles?
Cheers

I have an 'official' BMW Akrapovic on my '08 GS

I find it revs a bit better as it is less restrictive than the standard can, and it sounds soooooooooo much better on the over-run.
I dont think it is much louder than standard, (with or without baffle) unless gunning it.
However the biggest change for me was the fact it is much, much lighter than the standard can, so the bike feels a bit more nimble, until you get used to it.
Assuming you have the 'old' single cam engine, to remove the can - undo the exhaust clamp and the hanger bolt, then jiggle it a bit and Bob's your mothers brother (nae fartin about with the headers)

I live just by the black bull in woodhouse, I've got the akra twin can 'shotgun' full system on and it's fantastic... Rumbles at low revs and sounds luke a wounded wolf on full throttle - regardless of the weight or performance benifits, the sound alone puts a smile on my face.

Drop me a pm if you fancy a run out and a beer, you're welcome to a closer look.

1) Check your pants
2) check your wife's pants

Then when you've established which of you emitted this deep rumbling farting sound, ask the guy whose bike sounded very good what exhaust he was using.

Next?

I've been there a time or two. Not only does it have a vicious guard dog, well, a big fat sleepy dog, but also a little girl of about six with impecable taste. Upon seeing my mates spiderman lid she looked at it, burst out laughing and proclaimed "That's a silly helmet!" and then wandered off.

Unfortunatly both the guard dog and the little girl have moved on, it's been under new ownership for more than a year (I think).

Still the new landlady is welcoming enough, can't promise she'll laugh at your helmet though ;)

Wouldn't be a bad place for a local meet in honesty - anyone fancy it?

Steve

I've had a remus on mine for years and it sounds the business. A few points:

1) If you don't do anything about the cat/headers, it'll do sod all for your performance.
2) Whatever can you go for (its really about aesthetics) get a titanium finish, the alloy ones are a pain to keep clean
3) If you go for a full system, it'll melt your numberplate, so you'll need a spash guard or equivalent to protect it.
4) You'll probably get lower mpg, that'll be due to you cracking the throttle at every opportunity for the noise, rather than owt else.

Coolio, I'm down for that if I'm about.

Excellent, Let me know when you're back and I'll head over. Just got back from the black forest (germany) myself - had a great time just a shame to be back in the UK :).

Steve.

Oh, you'll like this ! I just got a new end can from Beowolfe.
Stainless steel oval jobbie with a removable baffle, and blimey it does sound good :D
Lots of burping, farting and popping on the overun.
But of course thats when I was riding it off road :augie

http://www.beowulf-performance-products.com/

Give them a call and say the following :

'I'd like an end can for my GS and I'm a tosser'

In return you get 10% UKGSer discount, a nice bit of kit for your bike, 2 day delivery and all for £140 !

p.s. No connection, but good service, good quality gear AND value for money should be talked about.

Fixed it for you:D

Another vote for the Beowulf.... Didn't buy it with any pretence of an increase in performance...

But it looks better (apart fom the cheap hanger) and sounds the business. I have been riding without the baffle in, but putting it back in for a ride through Switzerland...

So get yourself one... :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

PLEASE tell me which model can that is. I looked at the BEOWULF site, but cannot see that specific one for the GSA?
