Has anyone on here noticed the proliferation of deer warning signs on our roads? Is there a proliferation of deer or just deer signs?
The M1 between Dundalk and Drogheda has a few new one's. I ask this question because there was a stag (and i dont mean the pre wedding type):augie in my back garden one morning last week. A big horny red thing that cleared a ditch that was at least 7ft high at ease without getting into a canter:eek.
I suppose the burning question is how likely are we to meet one of these boyos on the road and has anyone else noticed a rise in deer numbers.
BF.

My father hit one in the UK a couple of years ago, luckily in his car, the deer did not survive and neilther did the front end of his car.... Would not like to hit one on the bike. But then that goes for cows and sheep too, around here:D

Hard to believe, but there were 74,000 incidents in the UK involving deer last year

Instead of spending all that money on signs warning us of deer, why dont they just put a warning sign on the deer ? :nenau

:D

Living in the Forest of Dean Deer, Boar and sheep can be quite a common sighting. The Forestry/Council installed pots on the side of the roads with reflectors on, theidea being car lights hit the reflectors and the deer in the Forest think its eyes of another animal (allegedly) doesnt really work, they still get run over :blast

Estimates in Feb 2009 is that there is approximately 100,000 thousand wild deer in Ireland, with 20,000 been legally culled per year. Ask the celt,......... apparently he tried to cull one with his moto:augie:augie

A guy approached me surreptitiously in Killarney and tried to sell me eight legs of venison for €650.

Would that be too deer.

Right I'll leave quietly officer :aidan

A fox wrecked the front bumper of my Fiat Uno a few years back on the M50 I'd hate to see what a deer what do to my car :blast

Had a near miss involving a deer over near Trim back in the early 90's, scary.

Signs are probably because someone in a quango decided they were needed.

Missed a deer by a hair on the N4 near Carrick-on-Shannon one night last year. Plenty of signs up for years but the deer never seemed to both going near the roads. Four cars wrecked outside Sligo on N4 in the same week four years ago. They don't fold like fox will !!!! Hope my new H.I.D.'s from Les will show them up sooner!!

deer scarer

was having a chat about this subject at work ie deers running in to the road becoming more common and one of the American lads who we work with mentioned can't you get deer scarers for your cars in the uk we all said we had never heard of them. so just had a search as this thread reminded me of it

found this not sure if it could be fitted to a bike but may be worth a look

yeah, gordo of this parish has a little funnel type thing on the front mudguard of his 1200 that as air flows into it, creates a high frequency noise which scares deer. i think having had an accident years ago, he swears by this little tool now. it's not a complex looking thing, but does the trick. if anyone knows of them, maybe point them out, for the benefit of the resident deer fearers.
