Defensive owners?

I've just reread the whole thread and decided I agree with everybody. I'm going back to my sick bed now and return to playing Mr Grumpy another day.

BTW NLS doesn’t own a 12GS… yet, despite him having a 12GS site, so don’t lump us into the same pot pls. [/B]

lets introduce a little perspective here.
It doesn't really matter whether it's an airhead, a 1100, a 1150 an Adv or a 1200.
They are all GS's.

Read the threads...
the debate has been going on long enough, and it's getting very silly and it's totally pointless!

The only really important thing, everyone knows is, what colour it is!:hapybnce: :hapybnce:

Yellow is best!

Dear Mr Chip

I find this debate facinating and informative. I notice you rank the colour as the important thing, so you are finaly getting in touch with your femine side. Notice you did mot mention the colour of your lemon!

Sure its a fine machine , aint no GS though by all accounts - all earlier models are from the same family , each seems to have progressed the GS unit in varying degrees. This is an all new machine and not from the same family, and apart from the problems that one can get from time to time with a completely new bike and depending on whether you have had your trip or adventure spoiled , ones attitude differs according to ones experience - reading about it is definitely less stressfull than having the experience !

I would consider a new GS - I have test driven it and if I want a new BMW Bike , I may well buy one , but not to continue the GS family , but as a NEW Model and a non GS despite what BMW keep telling me and showing me in their brochures. I know as we all do thanks to this site that they are being misleading.

Aside from that congratulations on your good fortune in winning a very fine machine - enjoy it

pulled this off the "What a load of tosh..." post where a guy just won a 12GS. Yet instead of congratulating the winner, this GS owner felt the need to outline his opinion that it isn't a GS. With unsubstantiated, petty, and ill-timed statements like this you wonder why 12GS owners are defensive.

SQD8R.....
Hmmmm didn't exactly look like a thread saying

''I have just won a 1200'' to me?

It actually started...............

What a load of tosh these R80G/S, R11xxGS punters put out.

I won a R1200GS in BMW (GB)'s prize draw and I think it's brilliant. True, I didn't like it at first and wanted to retreat to my '93 R1100RS, but once I'd got acquainted with it I'd never have gone back.

Relative to the RS, it's awesome: more power, lighter weight and a lot better gearing. Just takes a while to get used to stretching for the floor when stopping, that's all.

OK. I'm not going round the world on it, and if I go off road it will be down to rider error. But I don't want to do that, thanx all the same: off-road, take a single; take an Adventure to go round the world. But ride an R1200GS for the best on-road compromise you can get.

Um just because the title didn't mention the win? How did it not look like a thread saying that when he mentions it in the second line? Besides he doesn't rip their bikes, he's ripping the other GS model owners that are critical of the 12GS. Big difference.

No?.........That guy posted because he took affront at the winner saying owners of previous GS models talked tosh. His choice. Had the winner simply said what he thought of the bike he may have replied differently.

whatever bud. I'm not going to get into a pissing match over why someone posted what. It's mired in murkiness already here. I just think it is assine to slam anyones' choice, especially with such an unqualified statement like "aint no GS though by all accounts." I think the originators point was those who say the bike is crap are wrong. My point of posting it here was to answer the question of why some, not me, 12GS owners are defensive. If you don't see it the same way, no big deal.

Only femine side I'm getting near at the moment!

It's not Lemon - It's Custard. (spellchecker Codger!)

If you're not careful I'll tell everybody that you pinch their jokes and e-mail them to your "friends", one of whom is called "sheep shagger".
:D

I just LOVE this though....................throw a comment out on a baited hook about the bike you haven't got and watch the feeding frenzy of the opposition. BLOODY BRILLIANT :D

Nice one Tim for starting this thread and I am sorry but my childish vindictive streak comes out and I enjoy it!!

P.S.SQD8R
You're probably right!
;)

you want some real fun...go over to advrider.com and post how you think the 950 is nothing compared to a 650GS and can't keep with any big GS, especially off-road. The administrators will be having migraines for months.
