My point exackerly.
Everyone has tragedy stored away in their life.
We all have something that we would prefer not to be dragged out into the light, and, we all have different ideas on what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.
However, no matter what the situation, there will always be some one who has a genuine grievance concerning it. So to eradicate this situation, we should not show anything that may cause offence - at all.
In that case we'd better wipe half the bloody archives on here. If I'd shown a picture of a dead German soldier or an Afghan Freedom Fighter (Taliban, to you, Sir) or made an amusing comment about a high-level missile strike against a 'legitimate target' in Ragheadistan, you'd all be joining in the 'fun'.
How many of you are going onto YouTube and pulling your plonkers over a fekkin big JDAM bang or watching Hollywood 'Entertainment' that makes multi million dollars off the back of conflicts where UK Troops die for a ******* pittance?
Cut the mawkish 'respect for Heroes' crap. They're doing a job, guys get killed, injured, beaten up. Period.
I'm all for 'respeck', but we're sinking into some media driven sentimental hole where anyone who does not toe the media line is dragged out and howled down for dariing to think for themselves. I support any initiative that brings support for our troops...but the impression i get is that you simply toe the media line...or you are 'The Enemy'.
If you think you are somewhat 'immune' from my wrath regarding this, then I very much doubt it. Every night millions of people sit down in front of the Telly and 'entertain' themselves with graphic film of troops being blown to pieces and being de-sensitised by graphic descriptions of real warfare, live, in their own living room. Yet apparently, this is acceptable. But that's OK, isn't it? Nobody really gets hurt, so where's the harm in a bit of entertainment? I'm talking about fillums, here - not news, that's different.
Aye, if i produced a film showing puppies being mutilated whilst still alive - it would never get airtime. Show some guys getting blown to bits? Fair game apparently. even though it will be broadcasted in the region where their families are from.
So, speaking as an ex 'front line' gadgie, i'd just like to say that i have no problem (within reason_) with people taking the rip, it's extremely common in the Mob.
However, if you have no experience of being in a shitty corner where people are trying to kill you, don't start the 'offended' routine until you have closely analysed what you view as 'entertainment' and what is 'real life'....I think you'll find you're part of the problem - not the answer......
