Info..

MikeP the warrenty is 5 years on the latest mats, but is limited to warkmanship and materials.

The valve change was over two years ago. Anyone who has problems need to first contact the retailer. Some retailer won't want to help, and will fob you off if they can. If you don't have your reciept any more or your retailer doesn't want to help, then give Lyon their UK distributor a ring on the Bateman's info above.

Spoke with forry at the UK ADV event this last weekend and I believe he has arranged to return his to the supplier and should be getting a replacement.

I have had an email from the distributers at Lyon to say that as a Goodwill gesture I can send my downmat to them - at my expense - and they will test it for leaks and replace if faulty. Its at my expense because I lost the receipt and www.gear-zone.co.uk don't have any sales record for me and nor do they stock them any more.

Sounds pretty fair..

I think thats a pretty fair responce. Many places would require a reciept before doing any thing, so hope they sort it for you.

John, good to know that the warranty is now five years.

I do still have the receipt for the original purchase but the original supplier still refused to take it back! :anger

When I contacted Lyon, they said that they'd refund my postage if it transpired that the mat was faulty. They didn't. When I questioned that, they said that they'd had a change of mind!

They did send me a number of the very handy little stuffa-sacks that Exped have on their guy-ropes when I asked where I could source them, free.

Before I send the replacement back again, I'm going to check on replacement availability. Last time I was without for about five months and had to buy a cheap mat in the meantime.

Be interesting to see how long it takes to be dealt with

A couple of months on after a few email, one saying it was faulty and would be replaced under the 5 year warrenty I got the mail below today. I still live in hope

Dear Kevin,

I am really sorry that a replacement mat is taking such a long time to arrive. We were unable to source any from Exped directly and are waiting for our delivery to arrive in late September.
The main reason for the delay is that the factory that makes the down mats was procured by the Chinese government to make supplies for victims of the Chinese Earthquake earlier this year and they are still trying to catch up on demand for their normal products. Lyon has placed an additional order for mats due to arrive late Sept but with anything coming by boat from half way around the world this is not an exact science, nor is this a normal situation. Exped products have to be made in the Far East to satisfy western demand for technical products at relatively cheap prices.
I hope this explains the situation for the delay.
I will e-mail you again as soon as they arrive and before I get your replacement mat dispatched to you.
I can only apologize for the delay and thank you for your patience with this matter.

Kind regards

Vickie

Got the same email from Lyon today.

I only sent mine off a week ago (I did hang-on and not send it away until after my recent trip because last time it took a while to source a replacement). In the mean time I received an email informing me that the problem was that a baffle had failed.

Lyon have been good in abiding by the Exped warranty. It's a shame that the item fails.

This will be my third DLX9 in four years.

Like Kev, the original supplier wasn't interested but Lyon seem happy to deal with the issue.

The first one deflated because the original design of valves failed. The replacement had the new valve design but started leaking about 3 or 4 months ago (I use the mat twice a week). The mat would deflate after a week, with or without use.

Last month, while away, it was okay for three nights and then needed at least one pump-bag of air.

The problem came when I wanted to deflate it. The failed baffle was allowing the down to get into the valves. This blocked the valves and made deflating it very difficult.

So far that's a failure every two years. Their warranty is five years. It will be interesting to see how long this replacement lasts and if it fails outside the five years, what the response will be.

I'm not unhappy with Exped, I have lots of their kit and it is better than anything out there for the same money.
