Delayed launch

Having had the BMW BETA testing experience I would never buy a newly released BMW model again , my 2011 gsa was from the last couple of years of production and was a well sorted and trouble free ride, buying a 2014 GSA LC was an utter mare from the shocking gearbox, to the numerous suspension issues ,faulty switchgear, random electronic glitches and many many ECU related updates, the new GSA LC has a vastly superior gearbox, legible clocks and so far non of the previous bikes issues (although being non ESA may help) .

Would I put myself through the BETA testing thing again with a new VVT r1250gsa or an f850gs , not a f*cking chance

"So, just to clarify, you’re saying that a 125bhp 1090 feels flat in comparison to a 94bhp 850GS?"

Yes that is what I am saying. I have also qualified this statement by giving my normal riding style. I don't rev the nuts off my bike and most bikes above say 500cc will only develop about 30kW at 4000RPM. I ride with a group of mates on various bikes and all have no problem riding at my pace. One has a 1200GSLC and prefers to ride the dales on his Honda CRF250 Rally as its easier to ride. The GS1200 only comes out when it a long distance ride.
The GS1200LC may be faster at the top end but needs more gear changes and feels to give less power at lower revs. If you have a Computer Pro you can look at your average throttle openings and number of gear changes, I bet most will find the throttle is rarely above 20% open.
The KTM was a real pig to ride, Great on the A19 but up and down the box to keep it revving. As the adverts say Its a race developed bike and you need to be on the throttle to ride smoothly, not really relaxing.

If you think power is everything please feel free to contact me and Ill organise a run out where you can show me how to use 125 bhp on a twisty Yorkshire road covered in pot holes, gravel and sheep shit. with speed traps on all the best straight bits.

I sort of get what you are saying, and haven't mentioned how fast you may or may not ride. But you’re saying that a bike with more torque through the whole rev range than a lower powered bike is “wheezy”. That doesn’t make any sense.

There must have been an issue with the bike you rode, as I had a 1090 for a week while my bike was at the dealer, and it was as smooth as butter bimbling down my usual back lanes at slow speeds. On the occasions that I want to just take in the scenery and ride the torque, it certainly wasn’t a “pig”.

Now, can we get back to the subject of this post and discuss the delay of the 750/850?

No. This is a forum, and we can discuss whatever the hell we want to. If you don’t like it, don’t read the posts.:comfort

I agree 100%. I was so close to buying the 1090. I loved it - it was smooth, nice to ride, quick with a wonderful, soulful engine note. The only reason I didn’t was the amount of commuting meant I plumped for a shaft drive bike, and the dealer was too far away to just pop in (plus no extended warranty in the U.K., yet). Having had seven F800’s I’d say the 1090 is like the F800GSA but with noticeably more torque and power, even lower in the rev range (and I loved the GSA, but not the deathrap tubed tyres or very high seat). I would have been in the market for an 850GSA but looking at the 850 in the flesh put me right off. If they’ve not caught a major issue with the engine until release, what else have they got wrong? And will they let it slide and deal with the issues to avoid further delay?

Completely agree ... :thumb2

Got it😁
So . How do you like your stockings, do you prefer fishnet over seamless ? 🤣

Ok.
Back to track. I have not been able to try the 850 yet. But reading the specs, the engine has a 77 mm stroke. This is a long stroke for a 850 . I would expect a wonderful pull at near idle, at the expence of the spirited behaveiour at the top end.
Remains to be seen.

I see the point of a first year model.
My only experience with a first year was a 2006 1200GT. Over the first couple of years there where several upgrades. But I did not experience this as a great pain. Guess that partly is due to the great dealer in my area. Anyway, after the updates it was a great bike, and except for the scheduled updates the bike was absolutely troublefree. It had 65k on the clock when I sold it. But even so, I am aware that my experience was not shared by all the owners of the 2006.

Would I go for another first year model.?
Given the great support I get from my dealer I would not hesitate. On the other hand, I prefer to buy used bikes as I feel I get so much more for my money, so it will probably not happen.

Had a good look at the white/red/blue f850gs with gold wheels today, very simple way of completely changing the look of the bike LEAVE THE RIGHT PANNIER ON ALL OF THE TIME, it covers the utterly abysmally styled monstrosity of an exhaust that is fitted .

Didn't have time to have a test ride but was told that customer bikes that have been released are on an advised restricted mileage !!!!!!!!!! until BMW figure out (and tell) the dealers what the problem is.

Other than the exhaust it looks nicer in the flesh than in pics but not as pretty as the A/T

People were collecting new GS750s today, no advisory on miles and no recalls expected. The local dealer quotes the end of August for F750 delivery and mid September for the 850. Their demo 850 has restricted mileage but the 750 is OK. Seems they have nipped this issue in the bud. Time will tell. My wife is taking the 750 demo out this weekend and I expect the family vault will soon be emptied to buy one. There is no plan to halt sales and re launch next year.

I'm a bit disappointed and even more confused now!

I am in the market for a mid size adventure type bike either later this year or at some point next year. Unfortunately no one seems to make the bike I want but the 750/850 GS's looked like they might be close to it. Unfortunately I'm not sure I can get over the looks and now there appear to be a few problems it puts me off even more. I suppose at least I'll be able wait and see how they turn out when they re release it/them. Looks wise I can't get over that exhaust, they've broken my golden rule in that it doesn't follow the lines of the part of the bike its closest to and also left a massive gap! Easily sorted with an aftermarket can but decent ones aren't cheap these days and it a lot to spend on a new bike just to make me like it!

Maybe I'll go for a late 700 Rallye which was my original choice before I got excited by 95hp and a reasonable price. I'd usually go for a Honda but I think the AT is a bit too big for what I want and the rest of the Honda range are just faux adventure bikes. There is talk of a smaller version of the AT so that could fit the bill if I can wait that long.

I'm still keeping an open mind about the 750/850's though, if they prove to be reliable after a year or so (and if someone comes up with a decent exhaust!) then I might consider one next year.

Personally I think the looks are ok. I wanted to say pretty good, but then I will probably get all the haters on my back.
But Ok then: I think the new 750/850 looks good.

A lot has been said about the mufler, and the angle it points with reference to the rest of the bike. Take a look at pictures of it with cases on. Then you will see that the mufler points down so much that you may put the rack on for alu-cases, and the mufler reach so far as not heating up the cases. I thank anyone that uses the bike (once it arrives) will learn to appreciate the way the mufler is pointed and how far back it reaches. It may look odd in the store, but when the bike is rigged for it's intended use I expect the mufler to be just right.

I just hope that BMW gets their problems with the bike sorted.

So what you’re really saying is that the exhaust looks shite but once hidden by fitting a pannier, it’s ok because you don’t see it.

Fantastic logic....:thumb

Nah, that’s great logic.

The bike will look even better with an 18 stone cûnt hiding most of it .

Let's face it, if it's anything like all the GS riders I see around here riding to work etc it will have massive alloy panniers on all the time anyway so you'll never see it. They must always be off to do the weekly shop or something......

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I was told today.....not from the horses mouth, but from someone who is in close contact with BMW. :augie

The engines have been blowing up.

They’ve made around 6k bikes now and don’t yet have an answer even tho’ HQ has sent umpteen top engineers to India or wherever they make them these days to try to find an answer that isn’t expensive to fix.

I can’t name my source (because I forget his name) but suffice to say the clue is in the picture. :thumb

Another pile of overpriced cheap shit that will be sold to all the mug punters to do the road testing for BMW.
If I were in the market for a new bike it would not be BMW they used to produce quality.

Eh..To my knowledge, lots of people will disagree with that statement.
I don't want one myself, but I know two guys with the AT, and they are quite happy with it. As for the DCT, some like, some don't.

Read his post again, he’s talking about the GS :blast
