Last month it was a new motherboard (not charging)

Tonight the screen has just gone kaput :-(

Nothing lit up now, ping and just went down

Tried switching the laptop on & off but no joy

Guess it'll need a new screen :-(

Any bright or screen illuminating ideas :0)

Model, please, but:

First of all, just check can you see a very faint image on the existing screen.
This is barely visible, and easily missed.
If you can, then the screen driver is gone.
Takes about 10 mins to change. they are mounted in the scren bezel just below the screen.
If you plug in an external monitir and it works, this is generally confirmation of a screen driver fault.

Myke

Replacement backlight inverter is cheap and straightforward to change. Fixed mine for a few weeks, then it died again. Bad luck or a fault elsewhere killing the inverter? Backlight tube is a more complicated job, so I just run with an external monitor.

Irrelevant if you have a newer laptop with LED backlighting...

Cheers Mike,

Got that faint image, so sounds like the screen driver

When I get back in the office I'll plug in my PC's monitor to double check

Then it'll be a call to Dell to send an engineer round

Thank god for the 3 year warranty :-)

Sorry, I used the wrong term.

You used the correct term. Thanks for the correction. I would have led him astray.

Well exactly 1 month since the last repair - the man from Dell monte is coming tomorrow with a new screen & drivers

Got to love this next day manufacturer's on-site warranty - better than BMW's as they come to you

Well done Dell :-0

I thought you had a man who sorted all your IT stuff out, or did you sack him over the phone from Spain? :D

He does, but he's a systems & software specialist - he don't do hardware

Dell support is very good, soon it'll be a new laptop in the old case :-)

All fixed, bang on time on the appointed day of choice under warranty, no fuss

New screen, new inverter and wiring - in 40 mins at my home, without inconvenience to me

Thanks be to Dell (and Judge:thumb):clap
