Hi guys,

I'm seriously thinking about buying a Denali suit of kit for my 21 GSA including D4 Lights, SoundBomb Horn, B6 Rear Light and of course a CanSmart to control it all using the Under Beak Light bracket for the lights.

Before I pull the trigger on this expensive upgrade I'd like to hear your experiences good and bad. Issues fixing, light position and very importantly how the D4's are as Day Light Riding lights. I rarely ride at night but really want to improve the bikes visibility ensuring even a blind lady can see me coming ;-)

Thanks in advance,

Tony

Really pleased with mine. I have t he D4's on an "ABIKETHING" bracket. Not much use to you as it's GS not GSA

The D4's are awesome. I like them (with the ABIKETHING bracket because they are quite understated (I don't have GSA scaffolding).

Running the D4's at 30% brightness during the day compliments the "C" shape of the bike's daytime LED light well. My friends I ride with say they can see me really easily, without being dazzling. But...when you flash or use full beam, it's super-bright.

Quality is excellent, really easy to fit if you watch the abikething videos on youtube a few times.

Soundbomb is deafening!!! ;)

Or light bar under beak, smart relay & switch, angel eye drl lights with spot, all from AliExpress . £50 total.

Many thanks for that. A Bike Thing aka Steve Abel does a great job in so many respects.

You got a link for that kit?

they are seperate items on Aliexpress .
These are the lights I bought , work well for price. Won't be Denali standard but it depends what you want them for. I wanted extra DRLs and driving lights to lights sides of road up. They work well. If they break after a year or two just buy another pair for £12 !.

Just search Aliexpress for other types of light and the bar & smart Relay & switch . eg bmw r1200gs spotlight bar

I've recently fitted a set of S4's to my R1200GSA using Denali CANsmart and their bracket etc.

The quality of the equipment provided by Denali is top notch.

Because there are 4 powered outlets from the CANsmart I'd recommend only using one outlet for the pair of lights, that'll leave you with the other three for Soundbomb, brake light and heated clothing which you'll be able to control the temperature of with you heated grip switch.

Using the Denali mounting bracket the additional lights are far enough away from the indicators so they don't need them to turn off when using the indicators.

I have the S4's set to 10% for day time running and 0% for night running. They still come on 100% when using full beam.

As they say every day is a learning day, before fitting the Denali's I was unaware that the OEM fog lights illuminate on start up of the bike and go off after 20 seconds or when any of the OEM switches are pressed.

I had Chinese, aliexpress lights on my Guzzi. After a long winter ride (Devon to Cumbria) in wet weather, and the obligatory wash after, one of the lights filled with condensation and then flickering, then total failure. Then bought Denali S4 for the Guzzi (already have D4 on my GS). Lesson learned. Buy cheap buy twice (and create landfil) in my experience. I could have just bought the wrong item off aliexpress...

Hi Pol,

Excellent reply, thanks for taking the time to send. Quick question regarding your response: "10% for day time running and 0% for night running". Is the 0% a typo? If not why wouldn't you use the lights at night?

How are the S4's for daylight brightness, I really want mine to stand out which is why I thought the D4's might be better. Your thoughts appreciated.

Thanks once again,

Tony

I’ve just fitted a full Denali setup d3s and d4s with sound bomb, underbeak Denali bar and crash bar mounts with the one cansmart.

I haven’t gone the rear beak light route
As there is already three break lights at the back on the 21 adventure
And I wanted each side of lights to have its own circuit so they switch off when the the indicator comes on either side.

As I don’t want to piss of my riding buddies I’ve set them at 10% day time and night time running and 100% when on full beam.

Wow, wow, wow. I think dozy Doris would see you coming from Mars with that little lot ;-) May I ask where you got all the kit from and how was their service etc?

Regards,

Tony

all from Steve @Abikething which you will get first class service and answer any questions you may have.

Denali oozes quality and i wasn't going to go cheap when I have spent so much buying the bike.
but that's me and certainly wouldn't poo poo anybody who decides to go the cheaper route.

I got mine when the black Friday sales was on so saved a fair few quid doing so.

And the sole reason for so many lights is exactly is for all those Dozy Doris drivers out there
and it makes it daylight at night .

I had them on 10% at night initially but they are quite dazzling at night so they just come on with the main beam now. I wanted them for daytime running more than night use.

The S4's are more compact than the D4's and the D4's probably throw more light down the road at night but the S4's are great as daytime running lights.

I got all of the kit from Nippy Norman's, because I couldn't find a supplier with everything that I wanted in stock in Europe.

Thanks Soggy, Steve Abel it will be. I've enjoyed many if not all of his videos, which will undoubtedly guide me through the installation.

Watch out for those DD's ;-)

Stay safe and well.

Fitted D4s to my GS as well as the BMW spots , I tried the amber lens covers for the D4s for a month then fitted the yellow lens covers , I find other road users see me sooner with the yellows on ad mentioned Steves ya man .

The soundbomb is also a fantastic addition. Have woken up a few drivers with it.

Steve is a great guy, but I just wonder how much night time / darkened trails you'd be riding. A few months ago me and a mate, also from this parish, took some back lanes and trails back from Southport and I was really impressed with the stock headlight on my 21GSA with the adaptive light and the stock spots. Did everything I needed and more. I do have a Soundbomb hooked up to an EzCan but never bothered refitting the spots from y old GSA to the 1250 as it just didn't need them.

All horses for courses, and I am going to make myself REALLY REALLY REALLY unpopular here, but a GS / GSA festooned with enough lighting to signal an alien race 20 lightyears away just screams a bit "GS Wanker" to me :) (Or is it just me?) :) :)

Personally I think it definitely would benefit from a set of spot lights. Whilst the 2021 GS adaptive headlight is very good, on full beam it’s still very limited and I find myself running out of light to carry the pace I wish to ride at.

So I will be looking at a set of D3’s I think (don’t really like the square shape of the D4’s).

Is there any need for 18 sets ….. we’ll no, that’s firmly in GS wanker territory :D
