Dent 2016 ..... Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd May

Any locals that can help with the last bit of my route?

I'm going to do most of the journey on motorways but would like to take in some scenery closer to Dent. I'm coming from South, Northbound on the M6 and think leaving at junction 31 of M6 then on to A59 - A682 - A65 and then stuck for the last bit to Dent.

Or any other good suggestions?

If it rains constantly i'll have to spend more time in the pub.

If it's going to be wet Giles can claim it's rain making his picture look iffy rather than lack of focus :D

If you are going to be on the A59 from Skipton you can head through Grassington, Kettlewell, Starbottom, Hawes then into Dent or as in a previous post of mine go over Mallham Tarn all great roads with great scenery

Routes for Dent.

There are lots of ways in and out of Dent and a quick look in the road atlas should offer lots of options.
However as some of you are travelling a fair distance so I'll offer up the easiest for you.
These are only the lines of least resistance there are many many more jiggery pokery ways to get there.

From the south, A1, take Harrogate/Weatherby to Skipton onto A65,
From M6 take J31 onto A59 to Gisburn onto A682 onto A65 at long preston.
M6 J34 A683 to Kirkby Londsdale and the A65.
Once onto the A65 continue to Kirkby Lonsdale where you turn right at Devils Bridge on the A683.
Through Casterton where you turn right onto a (keep your eyes peeled) small road to Barbon.
Continue onto the very scenic fell road all the way to Dent.
Or, stay on the A683 to Sedbergh and Dent is sign posted (5 miles).
There is a small road over from Ingleton, we call it the Gated road because there are (can you guess) lots of gates.
It's very steep, your bike may be falling over into the ditch behind you while you're closing the gates. (Haditlowered is the man to ask about it)
On this route your last fuel is in Ingeton.
From the North, J37 M6 A684 Sedbergh and onto Dent. There is fuel in Sedbergh but is not open late, fill up at truck stop at J38.
Or, M6 J40 to Brough,A685 Kirkby Stephen turn left on A683 to Sedbergh. Fuel can be had in Kirkby Stephen.
Phew.
I live local so if anymore info needed just ask. Or join my Saturday ride.

I'd use the A65 as far as Settle then follow the B6479 through Horton and Selside until you get to the B6255, turn right and after about a mile turn left on the tiny little road leading to Cowgill & Dent. Nice and simple, relatively scenic and a quick way to the pub.

I'm leaving after work on Friday, planning to blatt up the A1 to J50 then Lime lane to Masham and in from there - I thought I could cut across to the Hawes road on that bumpy/undulating moorland road but cant quite seem to identify which one it is - I think its the one that goes from East to West Witton via Melmerby

I normally like coming in via Grassington and Deepdale but I'm not sure if I can cut across from the A1 without making the journey to long - its going to be c250 miles and not leaving till 5 ish

I'm heading up on Friday, and aim to be at devils bridge brew stop about 1pm. Anyone from here likely to be there about that time?

I didn't have you on the list, but it's not a problem ... see you on Friday :thumby:

As I'm made of chocolate / sugar ;)
I'm sadly going to cry wolf on Dent, as i can't wear waterproof boots & busted bodies, rain / cold do not mix + its an awful long way for me to travel not to be able to go riding.
i hope the forecasts are wrong and the sunshine shines on the event... :thumb

:( :( :(

Sorry to hear that Ash ... we'll miss ya for sure.
Take care yahear :kissy2

Thank you, I appreciate the response and detail.

Myself & Paul & Sam Vernon are coming up from Lincoln.
We intend doing the A1 to Wetherby then going via the B6164 into Knaresborough, B6165, Ripley into Pateley Bridge, B6265 into Grassington then up to Kettlewell on the B6160 skirting Hawes and finally over the top to Dent. I think.

I'm off to Alt-Berg in Richmond first and then will come out on Slee Gill and ride the minor roads past Bellerby to Redmire and Hawes and in that way on the B6255. Having said that the Cam High Road and Pennine Way looks interesting, any feedback, especially the Gearstones end that looks like it may be just a track?
