Bit worried about what to buy as I've never had whisky for 25 years !!!

It can have that effect unfortunately !
I find that if I start with, and then only drink pure malt, then all is well...to a point, losing the gift of speech and focus is usually the warning sign signal that it's time to sleep.
Trouble is most people will start on the drams after having a few of something other, the grape and grain aren't a good combination
