So question time lol...
    • must have accessories / bolt-ons / modifications?
...one thought already: A guard of some sort for the lower front of the engine (prevent gravel rash from tyre fling)
    • High Handlebars - the BMW option: are they just higher or raised by extending the 'arms' effectively changing the position of bar grips? (different angle of the bar grips? Ends further apart?)
    • anyone changed the front mudguard (fender)? I don't like the black plastic front end. It was similar with the XR... someone found that 1000R and 1000RR fenders fitted which are solid colour front to back.
I wonder whether the fender fixings are yet again spaced the same?
    • any tips or tricks for a newbie 1300RS owner?
TIA

There you go sweetcheeks the high bars,I'm suprised you didn't see them in the options catalogue. GAgbadnJJbmK6-kP6NC90Qo_0_gps_generated.jpg

Is the bike new or used?

For accessories. I'd say ride it first. And ignore YouTube reviews. The options and comments these guys make. While riding the bike at 30kph for 20mins is absolutely irrelevant.
They say levers are too short. To the point I almost had a new set purchased ready for the bike arriving. Rode the bike. Absolutely no problem with the Performance levers.

If the bike is new or low miles. Ride it. It takes a while to fully break in and soften. At 7500km now. Gearshift is positive but butter smooth. Midrange has improved alot. But when new it was a bit flat at times and geabox was clunky and notchy.

Also with bars. Put some decent miles on it. A new bike will never feel like the previous. It needs time. But for sure I found the RS got better. I changed where i sit on the seat etc. To work with the bike.

In Dynamic plus set TC to -4 at minimum. Or -5 or 6. At -4 it really wakes it up allows it to drive properly on exit. Everything else its flashing TC and holding back too much making it feel a but flat at time. But there is still enough TC to catch it if its steps out too much. Exiting roundabouts in 2nd are good to test it.

Overall. Use it and enjoy it. Some weeks I cover 1000km. Most weeks around 700km. My new commute is 1 hour each way per day. I know what the bike will do before it does it now. And genuinely. At 4.45 every day I start to get excited because I have an hour riding it home.

The exhaust. Again. This is another YouTube bug bear of misinformation. If it has the Akrapovic. When revving it on the side stand or standing. The exhaust flap is closed. So yes it doesnt sound mind blowing. But once moving. In gear. The flap opens and it pops and bubbles on downshifts. Nice deep tone but not loud or harsh. Sporty but discreet. Basically dont judge it by revving it stationary as it'll nevet sound amazing with the flap shut.

If you're in the hills or twisties. For sure use Dynamic or Pro. It really makes a difference especially with the weight of the bike. Plus you can adjust it in setting. So can have Road with 6 options of suspension damping. Same with Dynamic. Personally I run Road in -1 and Dynamic in +2 in settings and it makes a difference. Road is smooth and comfortable but controlled. Dynamic then really sharpens it up and it turns in much sharper and holds a line without getting upset and trying to run wide.

Enjoy it. Keen to hear your thoughts after a few 1000km.

Couldn’t agree more.

There are a lot of utter clowns on YouTube who ride for a short period then proclaim all sorts of bollocks.

My FTR 1200 was nothing like half the clowns on you tube said it was.

Gearbox, steering etc.

Exactly. There was a guy. Midbikecrisis I think was his name. Rode a Performance model for 20mins. Literally did nothing. Riding upright. Braking lightly from 40mph with cold brakes then making comment on the braking performance. Didn't change modes. Didn't go to city to try then some decent fast sweeping twisties to feel the chassis etc. Absolute waste of time.

Actually. Its a bit off topic. Sorry to OP. But if anyone knows a decent YouTube or Influence type person. I will give them an open offer to come to Spain and test my bike on the best roads in Andalucía and review it. Then they get some content and the 1300RS gets a decent review and test.

The bmw higher bars are done by the aluminium part between yoke and bar being longer. Unless you see a standard and high set side by side they look the same but obviously makes the ride easier on the arms and back.

Thanks.... sound advice.

Re the bars I am just trying to get ahead a bit, should the need arise. Spacers just lift the OEM bars but I believe the higher bars from BM are also wider with less backward rake?

Very far from mainstream here. All (OK, 95%) of the modification money I've spent ever on a good machine has been upgrading the human. School. On track. Top level professional coaches. I would never think of buying a machine that needs "help" out of the box. Then I would not touch anything for several hundred hours. I've never been clever enough just "know" what, where, why there is deficiency.

My first ride on a real motorbike was 1953. Indian. Mother's cousin's boyfriend thought it would be great fun to watch the show. Last laugh. I did not drop it...

I'd get something to protect the rear shock, those 1300s kick up more shit than the 12s when ridden in the wet from what I've seen.

Don't worry about the wider "Australian mudguard" it doesn't stop much water being flung up the back of the bike in the rain if you're going fast enough.

Get something to fit the front engine casing,I've got an Avant guard on my 1200,not looked if they do one for the 13,on mine its barely noticeable and much better than those fuck ugly fender extenders.
Hope this helps, course had you not been such an anti social cùnt and met up with us somewhere on our run yesterday I could've told you all this in person..... You big PUFF:)
