One of the great benefits of being self employed is you can take advantage of good weather days, hop on the bike and go for a blast, which is just what happened today.

I’ve also recently fitted some Wilbers shocks front and back and wanted to see how they performed and have a fiddle fine tuning them.

I also wanted to try and “geotag” my photos using the track logs from a Garmin etrex GPS in preparation for a big tour this summer.

Headed off from Nottingham into Derbyshire for the day via Wirksworth and the café at Monyash.

Off up the B5055 through Ashford In the Water

Then the fabulous B6049 up through Bradwell and on up past Ladybower Reservoir to Strines Moor looking out in the distance to Strines Reservoir.

The roads around here became completely empty, great surface, huge variety of corners and lots to look at.

Stopped off at the side of Broomhead Reservoir

Then back around the warren of little roads that criss cross over Strines Moor

Back via Monyash Café for a coffee and cake and spent a happy hour chatting to a fascinating 80 year old chap there who had been out for the day on his Norton.

It was just one of those days where it was lovely to be on the bike, in the country with Spring in the air !!

Nice pictures.

So how were the Wilbers?

Out of the box on good A roads they were actually set up perfectly, other than dialling in my own preffered preload on the rear which errs towards the softer side of firm, if you know what I mean.

On poor quality B roads and unclassified roads with very mixed surfaces I found the rear of the bike too "nervous". It felt as though it wasn't responding to all the bumps. Taking 4 clicks of rebound damping off the rear helped and 2 clicks off the front helped even more to the point at which for my style of riding I would rate them as excellent and certainly easier to fine tune than the standard Showa units. Not the most objective review in the world as I can only compare them with the Showas but I do like being able to set both front and rear of the bike up independently.
