I might well give it a go for Sid’s event. Maybe then return via the Chunnel after Gedinne or come back via Newhaven.

this is a crossing i have used many times
the Newhaven Dieppe return crossing has greatly increased over the last years prices, i guess its a sign of things to come, last years price for us 2 adults 1 bike 11pm out and mid day back, inc over 60 discount was £91.00 for same trip this year £220,00

like the North Sea, Portsmouth and Plymouth routes, I guess it is becoming more popular due to the lack of enthusiasm to use the Kent options due to the logistics of getting there and the crumbling infrastructure. A simple supply & demand formula means higher prices as well as the impact of inflation.

Shocking

That’s a big difference
I thought £180 each was better but than £6-700 each from Hull on same dates

J B it is getting a bit daft i priced up the Santander route for us, and i believe i could do it from Calais to Santander riding all the way including 3 hotel stops and fuel for less than the sailing, admitedly i would have to add more time to my trip but for me thats easy as i am retired.

I worked it out to be about £350 each way, using Portsmouth to St Malo or Caen overnight. 2 nights in a hotel and fuel to get to Pau.

To get a price that matches than on the Santander ferry you have to a) use the shorter Plymouth route b) book very early. By doing this, booking in July 2025 for Sept this year, my Early Bird ticket paid up front is under £480.

I had an email a couple of days ago saying the 2027 timetable will be released earlier this year. Anyone wanting to get the best Brittany Ferries price for next year needs to register for email updates for when the booking opens.

@Wapping I will copy this post to a new thread

I agree
Northern routes from Hull or Newcastle were £6-800 each for a bike & rider and cabin return
It’s barmy
Both of us thought £180 each return to Newhaven was ok, despite a trip up & back to south coast - bit in the way home we’ll extend the trip and go home via Cotswolds or Welsh marches

wessie this is the quote i got for the same trip same dates to spain and back as for France, no cabins just seats, i feel sure i can do it for less riding, add on cabins and wow massive increase.

J B the trip from UK to any of the south ports if you live north of watford is awful but it has to be done

I wasn't questioning your price but a) travelling in August and b) only booking 4 months ahead will always carry a premium compared to my book in 2025 for Sept/Oct 2026 travel

and yes, cabins are a silly price now. On my quote for 2027 Sept/Oct the outbound cabin on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry is £129 for the most basic job. It's 4 berth but I won't be sharing! A bit cheaper on the Pont Aven from Plymouth as they have 2 berth in the poverty class but still £80.

Wessie i was simply comparing 2 ways to travel, and the booking times used were roughly when i personaly would book my travel, on the bike price would be pretty much constant no matter when i left but as you say i would need to be booking way in advance to better the cost of travel by bike, and that i would not do. in know way was i thinking you were questioning me on price.
Also i would get a nice steady run through France and over the Pyrenees that we would both enjoy more than having to endure a rough crossing if it was to happen.

I know
We did Portsmouth last September and it wasn’t too bad via M1 and down A34 and M3
Came home via Cotswolds & then Wye Valley and had an overnight just north of Gloucester ish

J B cheapest i saw was £120.00 going and same for return so add another £240 thats if the cheap ones are available.
It is getting very expensive.
From where we live its roughly 228 mile to any of the south ports other than Plymouth so a bit of a drag, i would say portsmouth or Poole would be the least stressful for me.

I prefer Portsmouth as it is fairly straightforward to get to from Derby or Mid Wales once you get on the M42/M40

We tend to use the overnight boats and suck up the cabin cost as it means no overnight in Portsmouth. Last September we went out to St Malo and back from Le Havre, arriving early Sunday AM with a stress free, low traffic ride home by 11am. We are using the same route home next month, although tunnel outbound as we need to be in the Ardennes on 1 May for a function.
