DFDS vs. P&O North Sea

"However IMHO P&O are still a bunch of cnuts for the way they treated their UK staff or I should say double cnuts for dropping the Zeebrugge route (which was still profitable) or even triple cnuts for blocking anyone else stepping in and taking over the route (which both Hull and Zeebrugge still want)". Agree 100%. I have not used them since and I live nearby. What is really annoying is that they got away with breaking UK employment law. That P&O is owned by a Dubai company may be the reason?

I agree with all your reasons for not using them but it’s still much better than going down south for a ferry or a train.

Always use hull - Rotterdam , couple of years ago had a voucher to use DFDS so booked Newcastle - Amsterdam the sailing times worse on board not as good and when traveling south in Europe the time
to get from and back to Amsterdam compared to Rotterdam significantly longer,
Last year travelled Plymouth - to Santander Brittany ferries not only was the ride to and from Plymouth (Blackpool) shite but found the ferry very poor to p&o

I just set off on Saturday for the Sunday afternoon ferry and take a scenic route from Yorkshire e.g. Peak District, Fosse Way, Cotswolds, overnight in Glastonbury, Exmoor/north Devon Coast, Dartmoor, Plymouth 👍

Parachute.

Parachutes slow (or prevent) the pain of a fall.

A handshake is for arrivals at the front door.
Mea culpa! I stand corrected! :thumb

Saying that, a golden parachute would do just the opposite surely? :D

And a handshake can be a farewell too?

English idiom is just great innit!

Can anyone advise what the score is with the restaurant on P&O from Hull please.
-I booked/paid the deposit for this out and back when I booked my ticket.
Do you just rock up asap after dumping your bike gear in your cabin?

If you’re eating in the kitchen ( with the commoners ) you just turn up. It’s cheaper if you pre book the meals.

We paid our deposits then just turned up at the restaurant. You can either do this or go to the restaurant and book a reservation for later.

The Brasserie - I think that’s the one with white table clothes, candles, an extensive wine menu and the waiter comes and does brandy flambé apple crepes at your table for pudding
😉

Flambe crepes from Hull on the ferry. :yikes bloody snobs.
What's wrong with a packed sandwich & beer up on the poop deck. 🤣

Or as my a**ehole brother and his feckless wife did when they had a three night mini cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam with one night in Amsterdam .
They took 3 days worth of sandwiches from the local supermarket and they didn't even have breakfast on the boat or at the hotel because it cost extra .
Boasted about the fact they didn't even pay for a cup of coffee when they were away !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that comes under the heading of being careful with the money. Are they from Yorkshire ?

We are on in Hull and already onto our second round of drinks.
Doesn’t depart for nearly another 2 hours !
The difference in getting here from Staffs with the missus on the the back as opposed to riding all the way to Folkestone is beyond words.
I think my tunnel days are well and truly over.

Cheers everyone 🍺🍺🍺

It’s basically a cruise 🤣

Hope you have better weather tonight than it was last night in the North Sea. I was on the Newcastle ferry and it was a storm force 8 night. I saw spray going well above my window on deck 7. Only casualties on the two wheels side was lack of sleep or chucking up.

Yesterday we had yellow warning here in NL for wind and I live on the coast about 30 km up from where the Hull ferry docks. Today much calmer, a bit of light winds and showers. You should be fine..
Completely agree on the ferry. No intention to drive down to Calais to ride the tunnel but if you live in the south east of UK and then want to head into France my guess its the bees knees!
