Diagnostic unit for GS1200 Series

Does the instrument give fault code numbers only.

Will you be able to adjust the 1200 tickover with this instrument  ? or is that another peice of Hi tech equipment needed  ( thats progress for you )

hi Stephtoe,

you will read Fault code numbers *and* their corresponding text - the number-only would be pointless to in trying to pinpoint a problem

What do you mean by 1200 ticker? If it refers to the odometer, then *Most definitely NOT* - this is illegal in most countries, not to mention unethical... and we will not have anything to do with such activity.

kind regards
Stephan

No i mean can you adjust the engine idle speed :D we also call it "tickover" .

I've a reputation to uphold :D :D ( don't need your reader to adjust the mileometer, there's a much easier way )

hi Steptoe, (apologies abot the previous spelling - the fingers are faster than the mind...)

Ahhh ;) that's ok - I was confused as to why a moderator would ask something like that... you wouldn't imagine the amount of requests we get for our other automotive tools ( "Yes but can I rectify my odomoter?")... So much so, that we are working on ways to detect odo roll-back, rather than encourage it...

Glad we got that settled - sorry about that :beerjug:

ok, Idle speed - At this point not, purely because it is a "setting" and you can see in the above posts what the warranty issues are around that... however in theory, setting the idle speed should not impact a warranty either, but that could become a point of debate... At this point all I can say is it is in the pipeline... :thumb

cheers

Any chance that these units will be ready before end of November? I have family in Stellenbosch coming to visit in December... It will save on shipping.

hi Coenraad! (small world!) :beerjug:

They most definitely will be... go to our website and pass on the contact details, or send me your email and I can contact you once they're 100% ready for you!

best

Hello Stephan,

An interesting device. I see it does the 650 GSD ABSN - is it possible to operate the ABS with it so that the brakes can be bled properly?

Chris

hi Chris

Not at this time - although I've been asked to look into this, not too long ago...

At this time we are concentrating on the fault-finding and it is essential to complete the reading of Fault codes for all models - remember we don't want to void your warranty ;)

So what I saying that at this point it reads the ECU info, reads and decodes the Fault codes and allows you to erase the fault codes... this is followed by the realtime values, which are essential when fault-finding a broken-down bike too...

thereafter... let us surprise you...

cheers

Hi Stephen, will there be any chance of firmware updates in the future to maybe perform some of the above ajustments? and thanks for the prompt e-mail reply.
Lyn.

hi Lyn,

Most definitely, good question! - the system is completely updatable... and will be updated on a regular basis as new functionality is added - obviously we have to cater for new functionality, as well as new models being released

Both the intelligent interface firmware as well as the software weather the PC software or the mobile software, will be available as a download from our website

- what we have now, is what you will start with ;) .

BTW, I'll be a little quiet till Monday - doing one of the bmw off-road courses this weekend! Bound to be a lot of fun!!! :bounce1

best,
Steph

Thanks for your answers Stephan. I appreciate that you're concentrating on the diagnostics aspect and that's understandable if you want to keep on the right side of BMW. It's always seemed a contradiction to me for BMW to make bikes with a RTW character but to make them so technical that you need a main dealership to sort out problems so your device looks like a really good idea. Put a 650 ABS bleeder function on and I'll dip into my wallet - and use some wires and matchsticks to get it to work on my 1100 as well :thumb My bikes aren't new enough for me to worry about warranties :(

Hope you enjoy the BMW course. I did mine in Wales but having been in Jo'burg last year I reckon I'd have rather done it SA!

Thanks. Small world indeed... Seems I can't pm you direct, so I'll try the site info e-mail and put your name in the subject line. With all the spammers around I'd rather not post. Hope you get it. Send me a pm and I'll respond with my other info.
Cheers

Would you open-source details on the pin setup for the BMW connector so that I can develop some laptop software for diagnosis?

hi Snoopy,

pinouts are straightforward - however I don't see why you would want to dev laptop software if it is already there... both units (with and without Bluetooth) have USB ports so you can connect them to your laptop and use the Win software that comes with them... :)

Steph

That depends on the Exchange rate when you order
Currently to the UK, using the Limited time Introductory Offer, you are looking at US$304 (US$249 + US$55 FedEx shipping) which amounts to something in the line of GBP156 (using FXConverter on www.oanda.com)

Steph

Some guys on the US site are going to order some. Let's see what they think of them.
