I won't deny I started riding the bike with great trepidation and no small measure of fear. It is a tall and heavy beast. I passed my test in 1974 and rode for a few years. Had a break until a VFR750 in the mid nineties and then on to a blade. That went in 98 and it was just over a year ago that I got a scooter to go to and fro to Golf. My grown up kids have taken two of my cars and that left the wife transport when I was away. The mistake was of course going back onto two wheels. It rekindled the bug that I have never lost. I looked around for what I believe to be the best all round bike. The plan is to do a bit of touring as the wife likes going on the back. Getting on the bike is no mean feat as the years creep on. Once safely on I think I was overawed by the height and weight and for some reason assumed I could only get my foot down but not flat. I have looked at seat lowering etc etc . However having done ninety odd miles I went out this evening to practice a bit of slow riding and realise that I can easily get one foot flat on the floor. I think there is a lot more to being nervous and tense linked to bad riding than we think. Having passed the test well before U turns etc came in I will seek out a slow riding course to gain a bit of extra confidence. Once I am up and moving I find the handling superb and it turns in and holds the line much better than I could have hoped for. Overall I love it and will try to improve before I risk joining in on any of the ride outs. Confessions of a new owner part 1.

Well your probably riding one of the most nicely balanced bikes out there :thumb2

so relax and enjoy it will all come back a lot quicker than you think :)

enjoy

My inside leg is 31.5in. With the standard bike and the seat at its low setting I can get one foot flat but not both. This is ok, but leaves little room for error when on uneven ground or a slope. I've found the GS takes extra care to avoid dropping it when manoeuvring on foot.

There is a hack to lower the seat further in another thread, but I'm just thinking about going back to a pair of 1970's platforms ;-)

Congratulations,
Do you have it on 1-helmet loading as this lowers the bike?

If you are heavy when loaded two-up and run on 2-helmets loading, after you have stopped for fuel etc, drop the load from 2-helmets down to 1-helmet before dismounting, as this will lower the bike via the ASC!
