I think I am losing it..

! managed to find a decent 2nd hand set of Remus headers that came off a R1200GS (pre 08) from this forum.

I was convinced up to now that the GS headers would fit perfectly on the HP2.

But when I collected them I realised that they attach to the end can with a clamp rather than springs.. which made me think that I was wrong all along and now I have a set of headers for sale rather fitting..:blagblah:blagblah

now here is the question..

has anyone tried to fit R1200GS remus headers on an HP2??.. does it work..??

cheers

..ps..apologies for starting yet another dump thread...I know that I should have checked before buying.. and that I can quickly find out if I just go down to the garage and try to fit them on the blooming bike..

I pick up my HP2 at the weekend. i have a fulll remus system off my GS here that i will fit if poss. I will let you know. if they dont fit i will sell them anyway.

I have just totalled my ADV that had a full Remus system and have kept it to fit to the HP2 I am buying. I have been assured by some on ADVRider that the headers will fit and the end can too. Certainly the endcans attachdifferently but there is nothing stopping one either attaching clips to the cam for the springs or removing them and then use a clamp. Depending on the endcan you may need to move/jig the attaching bracket. I have heard some have shortened the endcan to accomplish this (by drilling out the rivets and cutting shorter and re-rivetting). I will be attempting this very fit in a wek or so. I would not sell the headers - they are what make the BIG difference on these boxers.

I don't know if my Remus headers are HP2 specific but they clamp on to the can rather than use the spring clips so I wouldn't worry about how they attach to the can :thumb2

the remus headers clamp onto the can on the GS too.
The system may need a little adjustment or modding slightly but the benefits feel huge (on the gs anyway).
Plus the carbon remus looks way better than that pig ugly acra thing lol.

all OK

thank you all for your replies.. :)

being encouraged that I won't be wasting my time fitting the headers..

spent couple of hours in the garage yesterday and the Remus Headers fit fine on the HP2.

I have only done couple of miles but the sound is great.. I also feel there is change in performance but too early to say..

I still haven't sorted out where to find a clamp for linking the can to the headers or whether I should try and weld some spring retainer on the headers..

Ah, yours isnt a megamoto.
Ive tried and tried to get the remus system to the Megamoto but it wont fit in any configuration.
Whichever end can you choose, standard or remus there would be a small amount of fabrication involved. Something that a professional would have to undertake.
Yeh the headers fit fine but the end cans simply do not match up:blast
I would imagine a cost of something like £60-£80 for a pro to do the joint for you?

Please post a picture of your remus fitted.

Heres mine (badly fitting of course)
See what work needs done to make the pipes meet up using either end can

Spent all last night "w a nking" my exhaust till it shone with autosol.
What a difference.

Hi guys, was there supposed to be photos attached to these last few posts ? It sounded as if there should have been. I too would be interested in fitting some new "cat" free headers should the job be fairly simple.
Please keep us posted, especially with pics etc.

There are photos attached.
It must be your end mate.

What bike you got?

Post a close up pic of the end can and union with the headers.

Is the Megamoto frame different to the HP2E ??? Thought they were the same?

No, im just thinking that the end can might be different and have a diferent mounting position or something?

So you managed to fit remus headers with standard can?

Hi dom, can you remember where this was discussed?
Thanks.

Unfortunately not but I will be in the same position in about a week when I take delivery of my 'new' HP2e (has 2000km on the clock!) ... as I have a full Remus system off my Adv that I WILL MAKE FIT :) It is the Genesis race can with the larger diam headers. Looking at your pics it does look as if some minor pipe bending or shortening needs to happen - certainly any compitant exhaust firm should be able to oblige. There is some forward/backward adjustment on the endcan bracket if you slacken off the allen bolts ... not sure if this will help. Alternatively I have heard of some shortening the can through drilling out the rivets and taking an inch or so off to get it to fit ... this may then align the brackets??? Certainly the Remus looks as if the angles want to work better than the Akra, in your pics.

right dom. i am determined to get headers fitted.
I am actually coming to really like the end can after a week now.
I would like to keep end can and get it to fit remus headers.
I will take it to a local exhaust firm who does stainless welding.
I will also need the spring retaining loops put on.
Im sure it will be not too big a job.
Will take a few pics and update.

Meanwhile, dont forget pics of your new bike:beerjug:

Took the headers to my local helpful exhaust bloke.
He "cut and shut" the remus near the end and the result is marvelous.
The acraprovic fits fine:D

The bike is louder now with the baffles still out, I may have to put the standard baffles back in. Sounds awsome.

Engine seems to rev a little more freely now.

Definate HP gain, not massive tho, but just noticeable.

very well spent £60!
