Digging through my 'paper filing system' ( one of the kitchen drawers stuffed full), I can across a receipt for a 2-speed Ricoh CD writer I bought in 1998.

It was £210 !!!

Old receipts always make me cry at how much money I have wasted over the years trying to keep up with new technology.

You should buy an airhead. It amazes me how much money I spend trying to keep up with old technology - that really breaks your heart....

Probably, I paid £270 for 2 speed Yamaha CD writer in the day, was a real pig to write CD's too, PC had to be freshly booted and the hard drive defragmented,

Happy days! :D

We were paying about £30 per meg of ram around 1995/96. At those prices my current PC's ram (2Gb) would have cost about sixty grand!!!

An extra 16K (not Meg or Gig) of ram for my BBC computer cost over £100 at 1980s price levels. My first CD writer was bought in France because they were cheaper - at £200.

Our first DVD player was a special offer at £430. Later we upgraded to one with more bells and whistles which cost £18

That's electronics.

Weren't the early SPIIIs over £1,000? :nenau

You can pick up a very good condition second hand one now for about £45. :eek

yamaha SCCSI cd writer and SCCSI card for the PC: £500 fitted

couldn't have lasted more than 18months before it packed up :blast
