Whitby Sunday July 10th 2011
Julie and I have wanted to get a longer ride in since our Keswick Trip, its all been pretty local to home for a while . “So where we gonna go?” “ I don’t know where do you wanna go?” Repeat a few times.
Whitby was our decision , haven’t been there for a while.
Rang round to see if any of the usual suspects wanted to come and the excuses are the usual. Then out of the blue Julies Brother rang asking what we were doing . He has just sold pub restaurant nr Donnigton and done very little riding over the last few years. A very quick safe rider . Nice to have him back with us again.
We ride over to pick him up en route and look over his bike , might want a little chainlube Dave , looks a bit parched . Sorted.
M18 , A1 , A64 skirting York pickup A169 and we see sun and a fair bit of rain. Pull into a service station to see if David wants to don his waterproof trousers over leathers. No he`s ok .
He did say they had been under there since he and I went to the Dolmites in 2003, wont fit im I think.
Get to the Seaside in good time , lots of overtaking opportunities on a few excellent roads.
Scarborough and Whitby Police out in force and was told that speed can be measured whilst a kilometre away . Behave that man on the Gixxer 1000.
We park up and wander in search of a coffee and watch the world go by. Julie as per is doing the photis whilst David and I talk b*ll*cks.
We have a wander and watch the kids and big kids line fishing for crabs .
The swing bridge is opened and we watch the boats come and go
We walk the Town and wander onto the end of the pier. Salt air , fish and chips , donkeys and more boats. Grand.
AN EARLY STEAM PROTOTYPE GS
Looks a bit overcast so we decide to indulge in some of Whitby caught Haddock and a tub of peas .
No chips cos Im too fat and the batter has to come off also.
Eh up whose this gobby git
"Giz us that batter fatty!"
Sorry but council regulation 4 paragraph 2 third line down says “Thou shall not feedeth the seagulls.
Took it to the bin and I’m sure that gull took off and tried to crap on me.
Its regulations you know no hard feelings. Get off to the tip.
At this point the heavens open and even the donkeys have had enough.
We shelter in the bandstand and then make our way to the bikes for a wet ride home. We go back to Scarborough and then do Staxton Hill back to Driffield, less traffic this way and a lovely road.
The rest is dreary M18 M1 and home. Apart from Julie celebrating her bike rolling onto 20000miles.Bless
Another cracking local rideout. Enjoyed the bit of rain too.
