diesel in tank

At the least I would think you will need to flush the fuel system through - whether there is any internal engine damage I don't know - I would doubt it because you probably didn't acheive any detonation.

Had you put petrol into a diesel engine, you would probably now be looking at a new engine, as diesel engine compression ratio is typically three times yer average petrol engine, and thus (assuming it had fired) would have caused considerable chaos with the internals.

If you want to get sorted today, i think your best bet is to phone a dealer and see if they'll come and collect your machine - not necessarily a Beemer dealer if there isn't one nearby.

Where are you ?

I don't know.
But try to change spark plugs:
Can't harm, easy to do, and you'll survive the cost.
I hope you don't have to clean the injection nozzles.

Liv.

Change filter(fuel) and flush the pump and then keep turning over in 10 sec cycles(to stop the starter overheating)

thanks to everyone back on the road after a couple of mouth fulls of deisel, bike seems to be running fine, maybe I'll see if goes any better Verns 134 mph might be in trouble I think not....a big thank you to Vern a few pints are on the way.
thanks again

Nah.

I put 10 litres of unleaded into my Toyota Landcruiser a while back before I realised what I was doing. I stopped, filled it to the brim with diesel, shook the car up and then drove off. It worked fine with this 6:1 diesel:petrol mix. Of course all the garage staff nearly wet themselves laughing.

Many years ago I used to have a rear engined Renault 10. To fill it with petrol you had to lift the engine lid (or is that boot/bonnet?). Anyway I stopped at a garage to put in a litre of oil. Only when I tapped all the drips off the and wiped around the filler did I realise that I'd put a bottle of Castrol into the petrol tank. Ooops. It ran hot and smoky for a while but it worked.

I guess diesel in the bike is the next logical step for me.

Did exactly the same thing with me Firestorm a couple of years back. Fortunately I realised before I tried to start the engine. Being a hundred miles away from home, had no option but to call the AA. He laughed like a drain, but had the bike sorted within 10 minutes.

did you get better mpg? i've heard diesel's very economical ;)

Back in ireland 500 miles later no promblems but cannot hit 134mph, heres a bit of a tip for anybody who has to drain the tank and needs a hose, take off the two breather hoses for tank join together to make one and start sucking ....thanks again for all your help.. ps ...the suns out in ireland and no speed cameras I'll just try for that 134 again.

My brother did this in France using his Honda Hornet. He mixed up the words Sans Plomb and Gasoil. Oh how we laughed. To drain it we had to turn the bike upside down as we couldn't take the petrol tank off. How every passing frenchman laughed too!
