Differences between 1200 GS and GSA?

Do we have a definitive list of the differences, and are they similar to the 1150's?

Specifically, apart from the obvious large tank, screen, crash bars, and revised seat, two features that I am envious of on the 1150 GSA are the higher ground clearance, and lower first gear - I've not seen mention of these on the 1200 GSA? Both are items I have wished for when taking my 1200 off-road!

Although not quite as low as the 1150GSA, the 1200GS has a much lower first gear than the 1150GS. The 1200GSA therefore has the same gearing.

The 1200GSA has better ground clearance (20mm??). Other differences include wider pegs and higher-spec alternator. I would hope the battery is bigger, but I'm not sure.

Oh it weighs a hell of alot more to aid its sinking ability and to make it easier to pick up!!! I'd guess at near 280kg's full of fuel!!

The Adv will be the bike to buy if you want less depreciation and more adoration :)

it'll also be a worse road bike :thumb

But if you spend 90% of your time doing very light off roading it'll be worth it.

...better off sticking to the light weight 'sports' version:D

Frankly I think the extra weight will cancel out much of the off roading advantage that the Adv might get from 20mm better ground clearance. That's just my biased opinion though :)

Yes, 20mm is not much - and with the extra weight this may disappear anyway. I also hadn't realised that the 1150GSA had a lower 1st because the 1150GS's was quite high.

One will go round the world the other will suffer gremlins before the car park exit??? :dabone :D :) :P

One is called the Adventure, the other is officially now .........

Basic!

Around £2k :o

The difference in price is a lot less than you think.

Although BMW have not confirmed the definite price for the 12GSA, a price of £9600 for the basic bike has been quoted, for what will probably be (and before anybody says anything, I know it could go up) the basic price.

Now if you compare the specs of the standard (basic) GS 12 of £8715 with no options and the standard spec of the GSA 12 at £9600 with no options, I think in the big scheme of things this is not a bad price.

The GSA comes with :
spoke wheels
Longer suspension
bigger screen
BIG fuel tank
more powerful alternator
crash bars
alloy cylinder head protectors
stainless steel rear rack
better foot pegs
gear lever and brake pedal
beak extension as standard
with the free option of choosing the tyres (TKC`s or road bias tyres)

Now if you consider that quite a few of the guys on this site have added many of these items as after market add ons, and tot it all up it works out as a tidy sum.

All BMW have done, is look at what many people wanted and fitted it as standard.

I grant you that once you start adding things on the option list, the price rises rapidly. But isn`t that the case with the Basic GS12!!!! :D

I for one, having owned the basic gs12 for 18 months, was hoping, no praying that BM would produce a more touring oriented GS12. What I saw at the bike show, personally made me very happy and I have ordered a new GSA12.

Those that may slate the new GSA for all its extra weight, just remember when you add all your TT goodies to your standard (basic) GS12, you are also piling the weight on. :D

Those that don`t want the extra weight, good luck to you, :clap the standard GS12 will do you fine. :clap

All I can say is, Roll on next March/April. :bounce1 :thumb :bounce1 Let the good times roll, what ever model of GS you may ride. :bow

Surely people that have ordered the 12 GSA must know the price
Not really, here in Holland the dealer states the prices will be anounced in January. Never the less I left my 6 month old K1200S at the dealer friday and signed a contract for a new GSA. :)

shuck raider, I couldn't find the 1200 GSA mentioned on the micapeak site?Think I'm pretty clear on the diffs. now though.

One thing I can't quite put into perspective though - the general consensus seemed to be that the 1150 GSA was more robustly built than the 1200 GS, and presumably the 1200 GSA is no more robust than than the 1200 GS. So then the new GSA is less robust than the previous one?!?!

Or maybe it's all a load of b******s and people are judging by looks alone?

Just the same way as the 1150 ADV was a worse road bike than the 1150GS,

Just the same way as the extra weight of the ADV, done away with the extra ground clearance.

NOOOOOOTTTTTTT!!!!
