As I said in a previous thread (R1150GS tips on what to buy/ avoid???), a friend of mine in Germany is currently looking for a R1150GS. I received some useful general tips on what to look for - many thanks! He is now considering a bike first registered in 3.2000 (with 66,000km, one owner from new, full service history....). Is there anything that one should be particularly careful about with this model?

Also, are there any major differences between the 2000 and 2001 models?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think there are many changes between 2000 and 2001. The Adventure model was introduced in 2002 and that was the year they also introduced the servo ABS if memory serves me correct. If the model being looked at is 2000 then it will have the non servo ABS with the Brembo 4 piston brake calipers.

My 1150 is a 2002 model, and this come with Evo brakes, but no servo :)(an absolute nightmare to get the correct braided hoses...Goodridge thought this model didn't exist!). I think the servo first appeared on the 03 models, in about August 02:confused::confused:

I'd concur with servo on the 2003 bikes, at least that was when the RT came in with them.

I don't think there are any major changes between 2000 and 2002 but then I'm always wrong :blast

And now i am confused as mine is a 52 plate 03 model with no servo on the brakes so that bumps it back another 6 months

The bike won't necessarily have ABS.

I have a bike registered at about the same time. I'm pretty sure the spec. of the bike didn't change until the 02 model came in. I think there were changes to colour options.

The main thing that will affect the value of the bike is the number of factory options fitted. ABS, heated grips & luggage are all worth having and paying a bit extra for. Dismiss any Toura**** bling as valueless, in fact offer less on the grounds of taste.
