If i change the forks over to some proper USD forks to cope with offroading. Can the front subframe cope with the loadings? Anyone done a similar conversion in the past?

Just a bit concerned that the front frame wont be able to cope with the horizontal forces imposed on it. At the minute, it only has to cope with direct compression acting at the front shock mount. The horizontal forces are transferred in the front wishbone pivot.

Want some proper forks to be able to cope with larger / faster hits without bottoming out all the time!

This in on an r1150gsa.

I know about the HPN bikes but they were a bit special ;)

There was a kit available to convert to normal forks , not cheap - look on advrider.

But you might be better just using some quality shocks instead of the originals.

I would have said it wouldn't cope - certainly not for off-roading. Search for 'Bakker frame'.
Edit: you'll need a big wallet :D

oh baby. That front frame gives me the horn.

Hmm i presume its a "if you have to ask... cant afford it" job lol.

Steppers - yeah i was thinking of that route. Ive only got the normal GSA shocks in the mo and was thinking of going down the custom shock route. Backs not tooooo bad. Only bottoms out on biggish jumps but the fronts useless. I might give Ktech a ring and see if they could sort me out.

(would still love that frame conversion though... its sex!)

I think so - I've never asked ;)

I'm sure as Steptoe says, some really nice custom built shocks (and possibly some frame gusseting) would work out an awful lot cheaper.

yeah that frame gusseting is something ive been meaning to get around too. My fazer thou will be on the road in a couple of weeks so i can get the gs stripped then and sort her out.

cheers lads :thumb2

What frame gusseting?

The reason for replacing with 'proper' forks would be to improve the bike offroad by having not only better damping etc. but importantly more travel....a decent shock won't affect that of course:)

Absolutely :)

I guess it's how deep your pockets are and how much time and effort you're prepared to throw at it. Then again you could just by a bike that has tele forks...

Did someone say HP2 or KTM...mind you once out of warranty it would cost a small fortune to keep a HP2 in forks and that's why I never bought one:augie

i like the hp2, but its a bit fugly!

the KTM adventure 990r is pure ...ohhh baby... in white.. yes please

but the price is a bit salty, espicially the new price increase so id have to stick to what ive got.

I can get a KTM 990 front end for around 500 smackers, its just the front frame.... hmmm
