My last Gs had fantastic heated grips, new one has rubbish ones. They work, but nowhere near as good as previous bike. Whats going on? Any idea's?

Kind regards

Geordie

Geordie,what do you mean ?

My grips on my GSA12 heat up,they keep pinkies warm, end of story.

What exactly is wrong with yours ?

Do they heat up in a strange way,too hot,too cold, wrong type of heat ?

I think we should be told.

After the sad demise of the GS (written off courtesy of some blind young lass) I picked up my new(ish) GS. Only 3000 miles on the clock. A quick trip from Durham to Aberdeen to collect it, but it was well worth it.

I got quite attached to my anti theft yellow GS.

Geordie

Anyway new grips are arse compared to old ones.

Del....

Pictures taken today of the all new(ish) GS and son.

Very nice young man. What made you replace it with another 1150 and not a super duper ultra reliable 1200GS :popcorn

We shall both look very daper with our silver bikes and matching panniers :ymca

Are you going to the NEC at all, I'm there on the last day if you are not at home.

Back to the grips issue........

There are indeed 2 different patterns of heated grips. The old ones (deeply grooved) are for bike upto 2003. The new ones, (part number 61 31 2 306 231 left and 61 31 2 306 232 right) are for bike after 2003.

The later are much better for 3 reasons:

1. They are actually thinner
2. They heat up much quicker
3. And finally, they are actually hotter. I rode all last winter and rearly switched to full power.

Thanks to BVM Stroud for proving it wasnt all in my head!!

For sale very soon old pattern heated grips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warm hands.

Get a pair of handle bar muffs, cheap, and very cheerful I thought they looked horrible until I was browbeaten into getting a pair. What a revelation
they are brilliant, but make sure the front brake lever dosent foul the muff
as brake light commes on all the time. I leave the t.t habnd gards on this cures the problem.
Dave GS (with warm mitts).

Thanks Dave

I do actually use muffs!

I do a 5-7 hour commute every Friday and Sunday, so even with the muffs in the dead of winter it still gets chilly!! But I wouldn't swap it for anything, and the GS is the only bike I would ever consider for this type of work.

Kind regards

Geordie

Geordie, you old git.

I'll take the old style heated grips of you if you manage to get them off in one piece and they still work.

You dont miss a trick..........

I was going to keep them as spares but, seen as though I knicked your engine bars and all your bulbs and fuses..........................................

£90 it cost me for my new one's, so if £30 sound's reasonable, there yours!
You will need to get hold of the right hand control cluster with the heated grip switch.

They are almost new, bikes only done 3,500 miles! Let me know what you think buddy. Sorry I didnt make the NEC, thats 2 years in a row Ive missed it through work!!

Hope every thing is good with you and your family.

Geordie

Ok matey I'll take them.

It will give me an excuse to spend more time on Fleabay looking for a right side switch cluster unless someelse has one they want to get rid of.

Do you want me to send you a cheque or via paypal etc.

Heated grips.

Has anyone tried fitting new rubbers (No, handle bar grips) to thier heated grips?. A couple of us have found that rubber grip has worn away and got very thin and is breaking up. (4700 miles) Looking at mine they appear to
be made on a thin plastic? core with the rubber over the top, I assume the elements are in the plastic bit. So, can the rubber be removed and replaced
and give the grips a new lease of life AND SAVE MONEY (all my life I give you
nothing and still you ask for more).
Dave GS rubber fan.
