Once when on very low fuel and parked downwards on a slope, it was difficult to get the motor fired up. Moved to flatter ground helped.
Subsequently it has not changed even with several tank fulls and miles on the bike.
Could it be and airlock in the fuel system?

Bike is an R1150GSA (02).
Starts best without using choke lever.

If so, how best to remove airlock with basic tools?

Cant see how it would be an air lock. The fuel is in a circuit where it is pumped back to the tank so thought it would self prime.
Has the filter been changed? Is the fuel pump failing?

I had an issue some time ago where the little U-shaped piece of rubber pipe inside the tank had perished thereby drastically reducing the fuel pressure. There are no external leaks as it's all inside the tank, might be worth checking this or the fuel filter which it attaches to. Other thing to consider may be clogged injectors. Try disconnecting the injectors and spinning it over to see what the spray pattern is like or do a resistance check across the terminals, I believe you should read around 16 ohms.

This is exactly what I was thinking...

I had a very similar issue crop up again recently. Turned out to be the hose clamp at the base of the fuel filter inside the tank. It is one of the crimped ones so not sure how it came loose, maybe i dislodged it the last time I had the innards out but a new clamp has sorted it.

One guy in another thread hit it on the nail and todate all works fine .
I removed fuse 5 and the motronic relay and after a nice cup of tea, put them back in.
This seems to have done the job of poor starting.

I did change the fuel filter, strainer, plugs and air filter. Checked for flow through the fuel lines to the injectors.

Out on it today for a short ride and no fault to highlight.

Until next time.
