Anyone have one? Got any views on it? Is £200 a sensible starting point, or is £300 that much better? Is any one maker much better than the others, or gives better value for money. TIA.

I bought a Samsung MiniDV camcorder for silly money (over £650) when the format was first introduced. Made some great home movies and captured some treasured memories, then burnt them to DVD with Pinnacle Studio 8. The camcorder is still going strong and has only needed a new battery after years of use. I can highly recommend a MiniDV unit, though things have moved on a lot and there's bound to be someone here with expert knowledge.

Hi John

I have the Sony DCR-HC42E and it's excellent. Good quality, Carl Zeiss lens etc. and at £320 it's cheaper than its predessor! Also, with having AV in/out, Lanc socket etc. I can run a bullet camera from it and use it on board the 'bike... great footage :D

Is the footage good enough to be on a TV when using the bullet cam? Obviously if you spend LWR amounts of cash anything is possible. Looks like you got a good price looking on the various web sites.
