Any one got an opinion on this camera Olympus SP500.
Quite fancy one. Seems to get good reviews and is still small enough to stick in a tank bag. 12x optical zoom not bad for such a small camera and 6mp
Not a bad price at just over £200.
Its got a 10X optical zoom and no image stabilisation system which is important if you want to use the telephoto end of the lens capability and don't want to use a tripod. Check out the competition from Panasonic, Sony, Kodak and Minolta. The Pany fz5 can be had for around £200 now it has been replace by the fz7. 5mp but better glass. and they are 12x 36/432 35mm eqv.
Had a look at the FZ5 and liked it but would need to get a special battery charger for it. The SP has AA batteries and I have a charger that runs of a power point in my top box handy on a trip. Also if all else fails can just buy some anywhere. The lens is mabe by panasonic under licence from Leica. But I agree the image sab is a great feature. Still a good few pounds up on the Lumix at the moment though. Perhaps wait till it comes down.
Just treat myself to the Sony DSC-N1 8 megapixel... ffffantastic and ideal for 'always being with you'. Sony electronics with a Zeiss lens. Not in the same league as the big boys, but if you don't have the camera with you it doesn't matter how good it is!
OK... I've got nowt better to do than post! Laid up after a hernia operation, no biking for two to three weeks... new Adventure 1200 coming at the end of the month... I'm champing at the bit grrrrrrrrr!
