Anyone reccomend a pocket sized digital camera would like one with optical zoom

Stef, Last yearI bought a Canon IXUS 700, think it has now been replaced with the IXUS 750, the 700 has 3x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom, brilliant compact camera well made robust and you can feel the quality. Not the cheapest out there, mine cost £250+ and I am sure you can buy one with more pixels for less, but I am on my third Canon and would be reluctant to go elsewhere.

Another Ixus vote here. I've got the Canon Ixus 55 - 5 meg resolution with a nice big screen on the back to preview pics. Was £305 list, now £192 on Amazon. Pocket size, durable, fast point-and-shoot. Allow extra for a decent size memory chip and a case.

Key question is how big do you want to print pictures? If never bigger than 5x7 then I would have thought a 5 megapixel camera will be fine, even up to A4. There are lots of good deals on 5 Meg cameras out there at the moment, as 6 and 7 meg becomes the norm.

I've just bought a Fuji A350 which I'm realy pleased with. Very compact and runs on AA Batteries so no expensive battery packs to purchase.

Got the old Ixus 400 reliable and tough, and had some great piccies. Still got it, wouldn't be without it, but treat myself to the Sony DSC-N1 8 megapixel, well made, Carl Zeiss x3 lens etc.

Certainly seems to be the bizz so far, but not read any reports.
