Digital display

Why have BMW changed the digital part of the clocks back to a casio calculator style on the ’07 GS.
I think it’s also the same on the GSA; the ones on my ’06 GS have a nice matrix screen with bolder text and larger symbols.

Any ideas?

AFAIK it was down to the fact that the matrix screen got a little funny and hard to read in hotter temperatures

The older, dot-matrix display had a number of contrast issue, especially when hot.

That's a shame as the new "old style" looks abit duff IMO. Plus I liked the bigger icons that shifted around the screen as more thing go wrong.

I agree that tech-wise the old one was a bit more geeky

Are BMW treating the issue of dodgy displays as a warrenty one?

When I complained about the poor readability of mine, the dealer loaded an updated software for me "to see how it goes", with the offer that if it didn't work, they would ask BMW for a free replacement (apparently, they had managed to argue the case for other owners). As expected, the new software made bugger-all difference, but I haven't bother to ask for a new display, as I guess the dim display when the ambient temp is above about 28 degrees is part of the so-called "character"
