Riding along enjoying the London traffic, watching out for those drivers that just want to kill or injure us bikers, close the throttle or pull in the clutch to brake etc and revs drop below idle into range of stalling before picking back up again, twice now has actually stalled ..... any ideas ?

Carry out a TPS Reset :thumb2

Borrowed from another thread

Ignition on, do not start bike.
Wind throttle 100% fully open- fully closed three times.
Turn off ignition.
Turn on ignition and start engine see how she runs

Check the coils mine did just this when they are failing. If they are the old style back and have that electrically hot smell you will probably need a new pair of primaries. When one goes the other will be along soon after.

Mine is currently doing a sort of stutter when cold which I believe is the throttle body to engine rubber not sealing properly. The metal band clip is not 100% tight. Time will tell when I fit a new band or find a worm clip narrow enough for the job.

I have the same problem, on my new to me 2006 GSA. Symptoms very similar to my old F800GS which were well known to stall for no apparent reason.

My GSA has now done it 4 or 5 times. Once outside Westminster as I was pulling away from the lights, turning right, nearly dropped the fecker - biker next to me must have had a right laugh and rode off!

It appears to be linked to the brakes - apply brakes and engine speed drops (servo?). Stalled, this morning when cold and brakes first applied - a right PITA.

What's the cure?

Rich

How good is your battery? If you have ABS you will have the old servo system which is a big electrical pump.

Do you intruments go out when you start the bike? This is a sure sign your battery is no longer holding enough charge and is worse when cold.

Hi all, as the old owner of retskcid' s GSA I thought I'd throw some history into the mix... the Battery was new in March 2014. (MotoBatt) and was kept on an Optimate.

I didn't suffer from any stalling issues, but in November the Fuel Pump recall was done as was a 24k service, I rode about 100 miles since that work was done, and didn't notice any stall issues.

so, the fuel pump recall required parts, (Not clear what they replaced) but the works was done by Bahnstormers in Alton. The service was done by Steptoe and a GS911 showed no error codes.

not certain if this info is of any use...... could the work ref the Fuel Pump Recall have any effect?

Next step would be the Idle Actuation Control Valve (IAC). My 800GS kept stalling at idle and the valve had a gummy residue which I cleaned off with brake cleaner. You will need to an IAC reset with a GS911 though.....

Broken down coils tend to effect acceleration rather than idle for the 2 times mine have failed...

Thanks for the info. The bike runs great, apart from this issue. Sat at traffic lights on way home from work, went to pull away, stalled!! Its a little too regular to ignore. I tried the TPS reset when i got home, so I'll see how it runs tomorrow. The servo definitely saps power when the brakes are applied - presumably that is normal? :nenau

Hi Richard, as you say the battery is newish and seems fine (although cranks slow when cold), however, in my experience they do not like not being used - even on an Optimate.
